The aim of this conference series is to bring together researchers and practitioners interestedindatabases,datawarehousing,datamining,datamanagement,datasecurity, and other aspects of knowledge and information systems and technologies involving advanced applications of data. DATA 2014 received 87 paper submissions, including special sessions, from 30 countries in all continents, of which 10 % were presented as full papers. In order to evaluate each submission, a double-blind paper review was performed by members of the Program Committee. The high quality of the DATA 2014 program was enhanced by the four keynote lectures, delivered bydistinguished speakerswho arerenownedexpertsin their fields: Herbert Edelsbrunner (IST, Austria), Katharina Morik (TU Dortmund University, Germany), Matteo Golfarelli (University of Bologna, Italy), and Dimitris Karagiannis (University of Vienna, Austria). Thequalityoftheconferenceandthepaperspresentedherestemsdirectlyfromthe dedicatedeffort ofthe Steering Committee and Program Committee andtheINSTICC team responsible for handling all logistics. We are further indebted to the conference keynotespeakers,whopresentedtheirvaluableinsightsandvisionsregardingareasof hotinteresttotheconference.Finally,wewouldliketothankallauthorsandattendants for their contribution to the conference and the scientific community.
