Judy Welna lists children 1-4 as possible and 5-8 as certain. She believes he may have been the son of John of
Rockingham. Otis resided at Danville VT, possibly Ft. Ticonderoga NY, Sudbury VT and Orwell VT. He was a
Veteran of the War of 1812 WC1102/WO3191. Otis served in Capt. John Butler's 2nd US Dragoons. He appears
in both the 1850 and 1860 Vermont census. On 28 Dec 1815 he was warned out of Danville, VT. Otis was a
shoemaker by trade.
Betsey's estate was administered by Daniel Waite 4 Dec 1882 V37PG476 and 30 Dec 1882 V37PG477. Her
parents were born in New Hampshire.32

28 I believe after rereading these records that Otis had two wives named Betsey. Since Judy Welna had the marriage record for Otis to Betsey Dorr I've
given her as wife number 1. I suspect that Otis married 2 Betsey Chamberlain and had the later four children. If this proves to be the case, the death record
and estate information per Betsey would belong to Betsey Chamberlain. This makes a lot of sense since Betsey could then have been born earlier than 1795
and make her slightly older than 18 at the time of her marriage.

HBV calls him of Hancock and a native of Fisherfield NH. The list of their children in HBV does not include
Herschel Napoleon. All of these children with the exception of Hattie apparently died by 1927. IGI records add a
Jane b. 1831and an Henry b. 1840. I've gone with HBV for the present since these may well be duplicates. Of
course there could have been more than one child with the same name. There is also some confusion as to the
location of Fisherfield.
A descendant of Ephraim Briggs who fought at the Lexington Alarm and served with the Continental Army
and died at Barnard 1829. (EVB)

used here comes fro his death record. Daniel was born at either Crown Point NY or Rutland Co. VT. Daniel

selling land 15 Jan 1868. He bought land from Fred & Ida G. Waite 23 Apr 1883.

Johnson VT. He was educated at Stowe High School; Bryant & Stratton Business College in Burlington; Eclectic
Medical College NYC and the Post Graduate Medical School & Hospital.
He was a salesman in Jacksonville, IL and St. Louis MO in 1870/1. In 1873/5 he was studying medicine in
Louisville, KY. He served in NYC as an expert accountant. By 1880 he had a mercantile business in Clarion IA.
Herschel returned to NYC and graduated in 1882 from the Eclectic Medical College with high honors. He
practiced medicine until 1889 in NYC. He established the Yorkville & Harlem Free Dispensary in New York in
1882. Herschel was also a member of numerous societies and other organizations including the Knights Templars,
Vermont Consistory of the Scottish Rite, 32d degree, Masonic fraternity, Royal Arch Mason, Mystic Shrine, and
the Vermont Society of the Sons of the American Revolution; all of which are detailed in source. (EVB) Addie
