I feel particularly close to the class of 96, because many of you came to Curry at the same time I did, and we're moving on at the same time, as well! I've gotten to know many of you, and I've had the pleasure of teaching a few of you. If you're like most people, this is a moment that brings both excitement and anxiety: especially if you are a traditional student, your life is about to change dramatically. If you look back at all the growth you experienced at Curry, think ahead to the next few years and know that you will continue to grow and expand your horizons in ways you can't foresee at the moment. Your years at Curry have given you a solid foundation, and by succeeding here, you have demonstrated your competence and determination. May the years ahead bring you happiness and the satisfac- tion that comes with doing your best and making a differ- ence in your community and your world. Dr. Catherine Ingold To the Class of 1996: Congratulations. Each and every one ofyou should be proud of your accomplishment in graduating, and ofyour association with Curry. As you probably know, became I the 14th President of Curry College - your college - the day after you graduated. In that role I look forward to continuing the relationships I started with many ofyou as a professor and to developing relationships with those ofyou I don't already know. Please be active alumnus. It's in the best interest ofboth you My and the College. door is always open and I look forward to working with all of you as we make Curry a model of excellence in the year 2000 and beyond. Best Wishes, Kenneth K. Quigley, Jr., President •'^^' The Dedication: As the editor of The 1996 Yearbook, I am happy to write that we have broken new ground this year. Our new natives have included using computer software to develop the lay- A out for the publication, and giving this book the title... " We Lasting Legacy." hope that this will become a Curry tradition. The theme of this year's "Legacy" is " Someday It Will All Make Sense." This is based on the premise that while as students we may not fully comprehend what we have from Curry experience, but that as time goes on we will have greater understanding of how important our time here was to us professionally and personally. This year's dedication is not to just one individual but to a community- the Curry students, staff and faculty. People who have been instrumental in each senior's college experi- ence. In the future, when we look through this book and the memories that it represents, we will remember the many individuals who touched us. Elizabeth Waldron, Editor The History of Curry College Curry College has a rich history whose roots lie in the intellectual traditions and personalities of the 19th century New England. Now well into its' second century, Curry has maintained a distinc- tive mission while creatively transforming itself over the years to meet new educational challenges. Originally, the School of Expression Samual Curry founded the school on the philosophy that individuals could reach their true potential by cultivating the art of expression. In 1938, the Massa- chusetts Legislature gave the institution the power to confer the degrees of Bachelor of Science of Oratory and Master of Science of Oratory. In 1943 the corporate name, School of Expression, was changed to Curry College in honor of it's founders. To this day, Curry remains a d3niamic and forward - looking insti- tution committed to providing a highly individualized educational experience.
