Preface
This volume collects the papers presented at the workshops co-located with the 22nd
International Conference on Web Engineering (ICWE 2022), held on July 5 in Bari,
Italy.Theobjectiveoftheconferenceistobringtogetherresearchersandpractitioners
fromvariousdisciplinesinacademiaandindustrytoaddressanddiscusstheemerging
challengesintheengineeringofWebapplicationsandassociatedtechnologies,aswell
astoassesstheimpactofthesetechnologiesonsociety,media,andculture.
Asinpreviousyears,themainconferenceprogramwascomplementedbyanumber
of co-located workshops that provided a forum for participants to discuss novel and
cutting-edgetopics,bothwithintheWebengineeringcommunityandatthecrossroads
withothercommunities.Weacceptedthefollowingthreeworkshops,whosepapersare
includedinthisvolumeaftertheyunderwentarigorouspeer-reviewprocessandwere
presentedduringtheworkshopsonJuly5,2022:
– SecondInternationalWorkshoponBigDatadrivenEdgeCloudServices(BECS2022)
– FirstInternationalWorkshopontheSemanticWEbofEverything(SWEET2022)
– FirstInternationalWorkshoponWebApplicationsforLifeSciences(WALS2022)
TheBECSworkshopaimstoprovideavenuetodiscussongoingworkonproviding
value-added Web services for users by utilizing big data in edge cloud environments.
This year’s workshop included five papers and two keynotes for which we report the
abstract.
The SWEET workshop focused on the diffusion of AI techniques and technolo-
giesintheWebofThingswithparticularattentiontoinnovativemodels,architectures,
algorithmsandapplications.Sevenpaperswerepresented.
The WALS workshop provided an open discussion space, starting from the three
acceptedpapersrelatedtonewapproachestosupportsearch,knowledgeextraction,and
datascienceontheWeb,therebyachievingsignificantresultsforhealthcare,precision
medicine,biology,genomics,andvirology.
We would like to thank everyone who contributed to ICWE 2022 Work-
shops.First,wethanktheworkshoporganizersfortheirexcellentworkinidentifyingcutting-
edgeand cross-disciplinary topics in the rapidly moving field of Web engineering
and organizing inspiring workshops around them. Secondly, we thank the conference
organizersandhosts.
Ineachworkshop,thepaperswereselectedusingasingleblindreviewprocessand
werereviewedbyatleastthreemembersoftheTechnicalProgramCommittee.
