Ogden 312-747-7511 Canvas: POD #6204 POD #7099 Red light Camera: Roosevelt Halsted Roosevelt Ashland Investigation: R/D was assigned this investigation on 03 Aug 17 at 0145 hrs. per Sgt. TORRES #2231 of this command. R/D was advised that while stopped at a stop light at Damen and I55 unk offender fired a handgun at the victim and fled E/B on I55. R/D responded to 3116 S. Damen and observed the crime scene. The scene consisted of the victim's vehicle and eight expended shell casings. The victim's vehicle was facing E/B in the mouth of the W/B entrance lane of I55 at Damen. This entrance is dived by an island separating the N/B and S/B traffic entering the expressway. Three shell casings were observed on the ground in the N/B portion of the entrance ramp. Two expended shell casings were observed on the front hood of the victim's vehicle and three shell casings were observed in the front of the victim's vehicle, one on the passenger side floor and two on the driver's side floor. POD #6204 was observed on the stop light located at 3116 S. Damen. An IDOT camera was also observed above the POD camera. R/D spoke with victim Daniel VASQUEZ #11852. He related that he was parked facing west on Blue Island. He related that he made a left hand turn and drove south on Damen. He related that the offender's vehicle was driving east on Blue Island and turned right onto southbound Damen. He related that he continued on Damen and observed the offender's vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed. He related that the offender pulled up next to him on the driver's side. The driver/offender had the passenger's window down. The offender pointed a dark handgun at the officer and S E fired a shot. P.O. Vazquez armed with his duty weapon fired 8 shots at the offender. The offender fled the scene eastbound on V Interstate 55. P.O. Vazquez pulled onto westbound ramp and turned back eastbound on westbound ramp where he called 911. I T Vazquez described the vehicle as a black Nissan Maxima, newer and clean. He described the offender as a male Hispanic in his A 20's with short hair armed with a dark handgun.
