Five different exciting zones await your child . Each zone features fun
activities designed to stimulate your child’s mind and entertain him or her
for hours . The standards-based content in Creative Kids Zone expands
on math, science, and reading content being taught in the 21st century,
second grade classroom . Through interactive stories, crafts, games, math
puzzles, and science experiments your child will make connections to
learning in exciting ways . Each zone is unique so your child can:
Be creative in the Craft Zone!
• The Craft Zone features beautiful nature crafts, fun tie-dye projects,
musical instruments, origami, and puppets! Each craft is a useful and
creative expression of your child’s individuality .
Get logical in the Math Zone!
• The Math Zone features fun activities that reinforce place value,
addition, subtraction, simple multiplication, fractions, and shapes . Your
child will help Tyler and Kayla make graphs, count change, and crack
codes while becoming a stronger math student .
Use imagination in the Story Zone!
• The Story Zone features three removable story books about Tyler and
Kayla, two fun creative kids in the second grade! Each story includes
open-ended activities that involve your child in the story telling process
and interactive comprehension questions .
Experiment in the Science Zone!
• The Science Zone features interesting learning pages about the different
states of matter, the solar system, weather, the water cycle, plants, birds,
and insects . Not to mention an engaging science experiment for each
topic takes the learning off the page!
Have fun in the Game Zone!
• The Game Zone features mazes, hidden pictures, how to draw, secret

Turn your sock into a monster! Make your monsters any
animal or creature imaginable . Be creative! Give your monster
a name .
Dip ‘n’ Dye
Designs
Have you ever seen colors move and blend on their own? In
this project, the colors flow and change! Experiment to create
colorful patterns and pictures .
What you’ll need:
• Flattened coffee filters or
paper towels
• Food coloring
• Empty margarine tubs or
muffi n tins
• Water
• Toothpicks
• Scissors (optional)

What to do:
1. Fill the tubs with water . Add a few drops of food coloring
to each one . Mix each with a toothpick .
2. Fold the coffee filter in half
several times .
3. If you want, cut out patterns on
the folded edges . Be careful not
to cut off the entire fold .
4. Dip each corner into a different
color . The color will spread and
run into other colors . You may see
two colors mixing together to make
a new color .
5. Unfold the filter to dry .
