You will begin with two projects that will introduce several of the basic hand stitches: backstitch, cross-stitch, blanket stitch, and slip stitch. For both of your hand projects you will be working on felt, but you could easily use felted wool instead. It is important that you get a good-quality felt so that your project will hold up and be easier to stitch on. Stay away from very thin, floppy felt. Felt is a nice first fabric because it has a bit of body, which makes it easier to hold, and it does not ravel, so no seam finish will be needed. You will be using crewel or chenille needles, both of which have points sharp enough to easily go through the felt and eyes large enough to accommodate the embroidery floss you will be us- ing for thread. You will be using all six strands together and not separating them like you may do in some handwork. 8 CREATIVE KIDS COMPLETE PHOTO GUIDE TO SEWING 42355 - Creative Kids CPG to Sewing_001-065.indd 8 1/20/15 12:51 PM 42355 - Creative Kids CPG to Sewing_001-065.indd 9 42355 - Creative Kids CPG to Sewing_001-065.indd 8 1/20/15 12:39 PM 42355 - Creative Kids CPG to Sewing_001-065.indd 9 (Text) FF3399__JJoobb::0011--4422335555 TTiittllee:: CCPPII -- CCrreeaattiivvee KKiiddss CCPPGG ttoo SSeewwiinngg DDttpp:: 116600 PPaaggee::88
