At PAR, we remain committed to meeting your needs with innovative new products that are geared to how you work today. Therefore, I am excited to announce our frst two products designed ® ® specifcally for use on your mobile phones. The Self-Directed Search (SDS ) Form R: Mobile Version enables your clients to take the SDS, a comprehensive career exploration tool, on most Internet-enabled mobile phones (see page 247). The ™ ® new PAR Assessment Toolkit is a downloadable tool for iPhone users that puts a score conversion calculator, a chronological age calculator, a stopwatch, a date calculator, and more at your fngertips (see page 18). ® In our previous catalog, we announced the upcoming release of the Mini-Mental ™ ® ™ State Examination, 2nd Edition (MMSE -2 ), which retains the clinical utility and efficiency of the original version while expanding its usefulness in populations with milder forms of cognitive impairment (see page 100), and the Structured R. Bob Smith III, PhD Chairman and CEO Inventory of Reported Symptoms, 2nd Edition (SIRS-2), which helps you evaluate feigning in greater detail with expanded scoring and classifcation, new scales and indexes, and a new Spanish Language Interview Booklet (see page 146). I am pleased to let ® ™ ® you know that these fne products are now available, along with the NAB Orientation Test and the NAB ™ Auditory Comprehension Test . The NAB Orientation Test asks examinees to respond to a series of questions relating to self, time, place, and situation in order to assess disorientation (see page 114), while the NAB Auditory Comprehension Test asks the examinee to respond to a variety of oral questions (see page 115). If you have not yet had a chance to take a look at the recently released State-Trait Anger Expression ™ ™ ™ ™ Inventory-2 Child and Adolescent (STAXI-2 C/A) or the Tasks of Executive Control (TEC ), I encourage you to do so. The STAXI-2 C/A helps you fnd out if a child or adolescent is harboring anger and how much he or she is struggling to control his or her anger; it also helps you know if the anger is just a temporary state or more like a trait, and thus, more concerning (see page 67). The TEC offers a unique approach to the assessment of executive function by providing a standardized computer-administered measure of working memory and inhibitory control; the software produces three types of comprehensive and useful reports (see page 93). To fnd out more about our upcoming products and new releases, please visit us at www.parinc.com. And if you haven’t already done so, become our friend on Facebook (facebook.parinc.com) for special limited-time offers, information about upcoming conferences and workshops, and news about what’s happening at PAR. WHAT’S NEW AT PAR! ® ASEBA Direct Observation Form (DOF) Now scored via computer with a new Assessment Data ™ Management (ADM ) module, the DOF is a standard- ized form for rating observations of children’s behavior in classrooms, at recess, and in other group settings. During 10-minute periods, observers write narrative descriptions of children’s behavior and rate on-task behavior at 1-minute intervals. On-task and problem rat- ings are displayed on profles of scale scores in relation to gender-specifc norms for children ages 6-11 years. See page 46. State-Trait Anger Expression ™ Inventory–2 Child and Adolescent ™ (STAXI-2 C/A) Adapted from the adult version of the STAXI-2, the STAXI-2 C/A is a 35-item self-report instrument for the detection of anger intensity over time in individu- als ages 9-18 years. It is designed to be sensitive to the developmental aspects of anger in children. The STAXI-2 C/A is based on the Spielberger taxonomy of anger—a widely recognized theoretical understanding of the complex emotion of anger. With fve scales and four subscales, the STAXI-2 C/A provides a compre- hensive evaluation of anger expression and may pro- vide a useful accompaniment to a threat evaluation. See pages 67 and 236. The program monitors accuracy and response time throughout administration to produce six accuracy scores, two response time scores, and two response time variability scores for each of six tasks. Each task consists of on-screen instructions, a set of practice trials with feedback, and 100 timed-interval stimuli that require responses. See page 93. 4 PAR • Creating Connections. Changing Lives. Taken from the NAB Language Module, this instrument uses digital pictures rather than line drawings, leading to greater ecological validity. Excellent for use with clients who have traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer’s disease, or other neurological impairments, this brief test allows clinicians to repeat testing with an equivalent alternate form, thereby reducing practice effects and enabling easy progress monitoring. See page 109. The NAB Memory Module provides a marker of an individual’s verbal explicit learning, visual explicit learning, verbal delayed free recall, visual delayed recognition memory, and verbal explicit learning. A new Scoring Program and Training DVD also are available to aid in quick administration and scoring of the measure. See page 110. ® ™ NAB Mazes Test Now available as an independent instrument, the NAB Mazes Test helps you quickly assess planning and organizational defcits in individuals with frontal systems dysfunction. This can be helpful for evaluating people with a variety of neurologic disorders, including traumatic brain injury, stroke, tumor, and degenerative diseases. Easily portable, the NAB Mazes Test is ideal for use with clients in rehabilitation, long-term care, and other settings. Two equivalent forms reduce practice effects to allow for ease of retesting. See page 111. 6 PAR • Creating Connections. Changing Lives. WHAT’S NEW AT PAR! ® ™ NAB Categories Test Previously available only as part of the NAB Executive Functions Module, the NAB Categories Test helps you to quickly assess concept formation, cognitive fexibility, and problem-solving abilities. Examinees are asked to generate as many two-group categories as possible within a given time frame based on attractive and engaging visual stimuli. In just 10 to 15 minutes, you can evaluate skills associated with frontal systems dysfunc- tion and gain information about an examinee’s response style and abilities. See page 111. ® ™ NAB Visual Discrimination Test The NAB Visual Discrimination Test is an 18-item task that asks the examinee to match a target visual design from an array of similar designs. The task evaluates defcits in visual perception using stimuli that are not easily verbally encoded. Colorful abstract designs maintain examinee engagement and a detailed Record Form guides the examiner through the measure. See page 112. Phone 1.800.331.8378 • Fax 1.800.727.9329 • www.parinc.com 7 WHAT’S NEW AT PAR! ® ™ NAB Design Construction Test Originally part of the NAB Spatial Module, the NAB Design Construction Test enables you to identify difficulties with visuoconstruction skills involving diverse areas of the brain. This brief eight-item assembly task requires examinees to use plastic geometric shapes, or tans, to reproduce each two-dimensional stimulus, or tangram. An equivalent parallel form allows for ease of retesting. See page 112. ® ™ NAB Numbers & Letters Test Once only available as part of the NAB Attention Module, the NAB Numbers & Letters Test is now available as a stand-alone measure of attention, inhibition, and impulsivity. Incorporating both letter cancellation and counting tasks, the four subtests were developed to measure sustained attention, psychomotor speed, selective attention, divided attention, information processing speed, impulsivity, and disinhibi- tion. Scoring Templates help examiners to quickly score the measure. See page 113. 8 PAR • Creating Connections. Changing Lives.
