The club have also dedicated a room in the club house to Rhys.” Money raised on the day will go to a fund in Rhys’s name and to research investigating the illness that caused his death. Rhys’s sister Rhiannon said: “We were all completely overwhelmed by everything that had been arranged to make the day so special – not just in Rhys’s memory, but also for us as a family. “We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to the local businesses and individuals who so readily donated gifts for the raffle and auction. “Their generosity was incredible and helped to raise an absolutely staggering £9,202.75. This phenomenal amount of money will make a big difference to the fund set up in Rhys’s name and will go towards research into what took his life. “The family would like to say a very special thank you to Darren Robinson, Lee and Hayley Jennings, Llantwit Major AFC committee members, and all players past and present for making the day so very special.
