Dear Sir/Madam, I’m am writing this letter to report suspicious activities regarding Feminist Frequency, a public charity that is registered as a 501(c)3. There are several documents that I included in this letter, besides the 13909 form. The first three documents are the forms that were requested from Feminist Frequency. 1. Form 990-N 2. Letter of Determination 3. Form 1023 Deceptive or improper fundraising practices A Kickstarter campaign was started by Feminist Frequency on May 17th 2012 and successfully funded on June 16th 2012, engrossing $158,922 (only $6,000 were asked). Their website can be found here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/566429325/tropes-vs-women-in-video-games The project aimed at the creation of 12 video episodes, namely: "Damsel in Distress", "The Fighting Fuck Toy", "The Sexy Sidekick", "The Sexy Villainess", "Background Decoration", "Voodoo Priestess/Tribal Sorceress", "Women as Reward", "Mrs. Male Character", "Unattractive Equals Evil", "Man with Boobs", "Positive Female Characters!" and "Top 10 Most Common Defenses of Sexism in Games". The first video was uploaded on YouTube on March 7th 2013 (10 months after the Kickstarter was funded), and as of now (December 29th 2010) only 6 videos were released covering three episodes: "Damsel in Distress", "Ms. Male Character" and "Women as Background Decoration". Directors/officers/persons are using income/assets for personal gain Organization failed to report employment, income, or excise tax liability properly The California Secretary of State and Wysk Company profile show that Feminist Frequency has been registered as a non-profit business since July 7th 2013. (document 4 and 5) The California Department of Justice, however, has Feminist Frequency registered as a charity, since December 4th 2014. This has been confirmed by the Registry of Charitable Trusts. The official twitter account of Feminist Frequency has also confirmed that the organization is a 501c3 charity, on June 26th 2014. (document 6+7a) Both entities share the same name, the same address, are both classified as “Public Benefit”, and the Organization number of the charity matches the Entry number of the business. The website 501c3lookup fails to deliver any information on Feminist Frequency. Charity Navigator might explain why: according to their own standards, the organization cannot be evaluated because it didn’t fill a 990 form, but a 990-N. Both the IRS and the State of California Department of Justice confirm this. (document 8, 9 and 10) Other - As stated in the 1023 form, Anita Sarkeesian (San Francisco) is the President of the charity, and Katherine Cross (New York City) is the Secretary of Feminist Frequency. Jennifer Jenson, a Canadian national, is listed as the Treasurer of the charity. She was Anita Sarkeesian’s academic adviser at York University, which is a Canadian university. Jonathan McIntosh is the writer and producer of Feminist Frequency. None of these individuals live very close to Walnut, as it would take at least 6 hours to reach Walnut, CA by car from San Fransisco. - The address where Feminist Frequency is currently registered as both a charity and business, is known for the large number of spammers using PO Boxes at this location. (Document 11) - The Agent for Service of Process of Feminist Frequency (the business) is Michael Guenther. According to Wisk company profile, when searching for Michael Guenther, four entities show up. What’s strange is that all four of these companies/charities are currently suspended. Organization is engaged in excessive lobbying activities The official twitter account of Feminist Frequency has published statements about why it is important to have a cyber-civil rights agenda. (Document 7b) I hope I have given you all the information you need. Yours faithfully, Jasper Kraan
