In response to learner requests we continue to offer a wide range of interesting courses at various levels to suit individual requirements. This year we have extended the range and number of short one-day taster courses on offer to allow you to sample a subject before enrolling on a long course. These courses take place predominantly on Saturdays in Worthing, Shoreham and Southwick at community venues and on the three College sites. The range of new courses on offer refect the ‘credit crunch’ economic climate with extra Do It Yourself, Dressmaking, Soft Furnishings, Cookery and Gardening courses to help develop your practical skills around the home and save you some money! Working with community groups and voluntary organisations Northbrook College values working in partnership with local community groups and voluntary organisations in the Littlehampton, Worthing and Adur areas. The College is wholly committed to developing innovative ways to engage with disadvantaged groups of people from diverse backgrounds. During 2009 the College arranged appropriate learning opportunities in conjunction with a variety of organisations including Southlanders (a local self help group), Shoreham Mental Health Association, Southwick Christian Community Church, The Carers Support Service, Mick’s Garage and Worthing MIND Day Centre. Learners benefted from attending friendly, small group sessions in familiar community settings and increased their confdence through their learning experiences including: First Aid in the Home, Photography, Introduction to Mental Health and Dealing with Life and Self Esteem courses. The College is keen to hear from local organisations that require support for their clients and will customise courses to suit learner needs.
