In the past 25 years, wars have started and ended, leaders have risen to power and fallen, walls were built up and torn down. Yet, through all of this, Pulaski County High School has remained an integral part of the Pulaski community. Many changes in student life have taken place since 1974. Fashion trends have evolved from bell-bottoms to cargo pants, and platform dance shoes to Adidas and Nike athletic shoes. Changes have also taken place in other parts of the world. The Soviet Union fell, a peace developed between two long feuding enemies, Israel and Palestine, the Cold War ended, and many other events that greatly altered the world’s political scene oc- cured. But, other than those mentioned, other less evident changes have taken place. For example, the advancements in computer technology have changed the way that the world functions. In 1974 most students had never even seen a computer, much less had access to one on a daily basis. Although additions have been made to the interior, exterior, curriculum, and faculty, the spirit that was present on the day that ground was broken remains as strong as ever. 25 Years I Even the flags greet one with “Cougar Spirit”, displaying our bur¬ gundy and gold. This scenic picture taken in 1971 is now the site of the central building. This aerial view of the buildings as they near completion in 1973 shows aspects of their construction. 25 Years .Remember tlie Stage Pulaski County High School, the stage where we laugh, shed tears, labor, learn, and share good times is one that is somewhat different than it was 25 years ago. Mr. Aust said that his most prominent memory of the school’s first year is “going around in circles.” Well, that’s one thing that hasn’t changed! However, improvements have been made to better our “circles.” The main aspect of the school building that has changed from 25 years ago is the fact that the school is actually finished being built! When asked about what the building was like in its first year, Mrs. Manning remembered that there was always hammering, the auditori¬ um wasn’t finished, and the gym floor covering wasn’t glued to the present concrete floor until December. Students had P.E. in the halls! Mr. Shelton said that there was “debris everywhere.” While we no longer encounter that nuisance, some unfinished aspects of the building have seemingly remained the same. Mrs. Tate said, “The leak in the math department roof has still not changed!” One thing that has changed about the math pod and the others is that dividers have been put up between the classrooms, which were once “open.” Mr. Freeman said, “I taught German on one side of a room while Harry DeHaven taught World History on the other!” Other changes through the years include additons of new curtains and seats in the Little Theater, the glass enclosed area in the Commons, mirrors in the halls, new hadicap elevator lift facilities, and identifying pod signs. Technology has also changed and added to the building. Sitting at his desk, Mr. Lindstrom said, “I never dreamed I’d be sitting here with a computer at my elbow.” In addition to these changes, most describe the school as cleaner and better maintained. “All the world’s a stage” as is Pulaski County High School. Mr. Lindstrom summed up the stability of this stage, where we grow and learn, when he said, “It’s as solid as a rock.” Our school — our stage will be here for many more students to come.
