Inthemountainousmoss forestsof theCameronHighlands, Malaysia,ween- countermanyapterousbeetlesonshrubs. InGunungBrinchang,thehighestmountain inthearea(alt 2,032m)itisquitediverseinsuchapterousformsandtheyincludethe families Dryopidae, Colydiidae, Tenebrionidae, Cerambycidaeand the superfamily Curculionoidea.Amongthem,weevilsarepredominantinthenumberofspecies.They areChoraginaeofAnthribidae,StromboscerinaeofDryophthoridae,andCryptorhynchi- nae, MolytinaeandEntiminaeofCurculionidae, andmost of thembelong to the Molytinae. Inour fourthstudydealingwithsuchapterousMalaysianweevils(KoJIMA&Mo- RIMOT0, 2002; KOJIMAet a1., 2003; KoJIMA & IDRIs, 2003), anew genusofCotas- teromiminaofMolytinae:Pissodini isestablished foranewspeciescollectedonthe shrubscoveredwithlichensinthemossforestsbybeatingmethods.Theweevilresem- blesCotasterom11mtsdescribedfromJapanbyCHOJoandVoss(1960). Legswith femoradentate; tibiaeeachwithpremucroindistinct; tarsiwith3rdsegment notbilobed Cotasteromorp11usgen nov. 4(3)Elytrawithshouldersvariablefrompresenttoindistinct;hindwingspresent,but reduced insizeifshouldersareindistinct.Legswith femoraedentate; tibiae eachwithpremucro;tarsiwith3rdsegmentbilobed Cotaste1'omimusCHUJ0etVOSS.1960 Thefeaturessuchasthenon-bilobed3rdtarsalsegmentandthedentate femora seeninCotaste1-omorphus1ooklikethoseofanotherapterousmolytinegenusPinaco- pusMARSHALL,1932occurringsympatrically.However,thebody ismuchsmallerthan inPinacopus,andtherostrumisconstrictedatthebaseandthepremucroofeachtibia isundevelopedinCotasteromorphus.Theaedeaga1feature,whichhasaslitlaterallyis alsosharedbetweenCotaste1,omorphusandPinacopus.Thisisanunusual featureseen in CotasteromimusCHUJoet Voss, 1960 (MoRIMoTo & MIYAKAwA, 1985), Seleuca PAscoE, 1871 (MoRIMoTo, 1982) and 011bazo MoRIMoTo, 1961 (MoRIMoTo & MIYAKAwA,1985) asfarasweknow.AmongthemSeleucaandOtlbazodiffer from others inhaving thecontiguousprocoxaeandarenowclassified in the Lithinini and Anchonini intheMolytinae, respectively.PresentlyPi,1acopusisclassifiedinthetribe Molytini(ALoNso-ZARAzAGA& LYAL,1999),butthefeaturesseeninPinacop1,tsmay indicate the affinity with Cotasteromimina in the tribePissodini and the position shouldbereinvestigatedinthefuture. CotasteromorphuschujoiKoJIMA,sp nov. (Figs.l-23) Male. Length:1.7-2.1mm;width:0.9-1.0mm. Dormdarkbrowntoblack,antennalscape,uncioftibiaeandclawspaler,some_ timesrostrum,antennaeandlegsdarkreddishdrown. Headwithdensesmallpunctures,eachwitha nerecumbentscalyhair, forehead betweeneyeswiderthanbaseofrostrum.Rostrum0.8timesaslongaspronotum,dor_ sumwith fiverowsofcarinaebehindantennal insertion, interveningareabetween themwithdecurvedsubrecumbentscales.Antennaeinsertedatapical1/3ofrostrum; scapenearlyaslongasfunicle; funiclewith1stsegment15timesaslongasbroad, 2nd3/5timesaslongas1st,3rdto7thsubequa1inlength,abouthalfaslongas2nd; clubaslongasbasalthreesegmentsoffuniclecombined. Prosternumasshallowlypunctateaslateralsidesofprothorax;presternalprocess and sterne11um impunctate. Mesosternum shiny, separately punctate; mesosterna1 processdenselypunctate,eachwithadecurvedsubrecumbentscale.Metasternumwith a transverse rowofpunctures,eachpuncturewithadecurvedsubrecumbentscale. Venter with 1st ventrite weakly depressed at middle, 1st, 2nd and 5th ventrites minutelypunctate,eachpuncturewithafinerecumbenthair,3rdand4thventritesal- mostimpunctate. ThenameisdedicatedtothememoryofthelateDr.MichioCHuJo, whowas aneminentJapanesecoleopterologist andcontributedtothe taxonomy of beetlesincludingweevils. Two formswererecognizedinthescaleconditionofelytra1inter- vals:oneisthatthescalesarearrangednearlyregularlyineachintervalandtheother isnotsoandscalesareirregularlydisposedto formclustersasisillustrated(Fig.1). Initially,weconsideredthattheyaredividedintotwospecies.Theyareoccurringsym- patrica11y,andone formhasbothsexes,buttheother isrepresentedbyonly female thoughanumberofspecimenswereexamined.Thus,wecomparedfemalegenitaliaof bothformsandtheywerenotdistinguishedfromeachotherexcept forthescalecondi- tion.Wethereforeconcludedthattheseformsmaybeintraspecificvariations. It is interesting thatthesex ratio isextremelybiased to female(male:female= 1:13)inthisspecies. 要 約 小島弘昭・A.G. IDRls:マレーシアの重華苔林から発見されたッチイロソ゛ウムシ亜族 (和名新 称) の1新属. - マレ一半島キャメロンハイランドの藤苔林から得られた, キボシソ゛ウムシ 族ツチイロゾウムシ亜族に含まれる新属新種のゾウムシを故中條道夫博士に献名し, Cotaste1・o- mo1phuschuJolgenetspnov.として命名・記載した. 本属は, CHuJo&voss(1960)により日本 から記載されたCotaste,・omlrm,s属に似ているが, 上翅の肩が張り出さず, 後翅が完全に退化し, 腿節には歯状突起を有し, 付節第3節が, 2葉状にならない点などでCotaste,・o,n,,m,s属とは容 易に区別できる. 本種は, 基準産地では蘇苔類に覆われた灌木から叩き網で比較的普通に得ら れる種で, 多数の標本を検したが性比が著しく雌に偏つてぃた.
