Roderick served the Town of Conway as a full-time Police Officer from March 16, 1980 through March 31, 2000. Rick served in many capacities but is best known for the manyyears he devoted to the Detective Division. Rickretires after twenty years in Law Enforcement. He and his wife, Fran, continue to live and work in Conway. LeonE. ShackleyservedtheTownofConwayas a full-time Police Officer from April 16, 1979 throughAugust6, 2000. Leonretires aftertwenty- one years in Law Enforcement, all ofthose years as an Officer who responded to calls for service from the public. Leon achieved the rank of SergeantduringhistenureandservedtheTownof Conway well. Leon and his wife, Sheryl, live in Chadiam, NH. DavidG.BennettservedtheTownofConwayasa full-timePoliceOfficerfromJuly15, 1968through February 28, 2001. Dave worked for many years before that as a part-time Officer. Dave retires withnearlythirty-threeyears offull-time service, having risen to the rank ofLieutenant. Dave and his wife, Carol, will enjoyretirementyears in the Townhehasprotectedsince 1963. David Chase served the Town of Conway as a Highway Foreman for the Public Works Department from September 5, 1970 through October 1, 2000. Daveretiresafter30yearsofser- vice. Davewillbemissedbyallofus andwewish himthebestinhisretirement. We wish them all the best! Fortunately for us, our PublicWorks Director, Paul DegliAngeli, accepted the responsibility of serving as Interim Town Manager. PaulfulfilledthatroleuntilJuly. TheBoardofSelectmenwouldliketotakethis opportunitytoexpressitsgratitudeforhisservicetotheTown. Pauldidnotjust keep theship afloat, he moveditforward. ThislastyearalsofoundtheTownwithanumberofkeynewemployeesinclud- ing the Town Planner, Code Enforcement OfBcer, Building Inspector, and otir ExecutiveSecretary. Andfinally,inJuly,ournewTownManager,EarlSiresjoinedthe staff. Inouropinion,EarlhasbeenatrueassettotheTownandthecommunity. Highlightsof2000include: •CompletionoftheWhitakerWoodsMeetingHouse ThisfacilitywiUserve asawarminghutforwintersportsandasan administrativefacilityforsummerprograms. • CompletionoftheWhitakerLane Bridge •DrainageAnalysisandinstallationofcatchbasinsonTownroadsaroimd ConwayLake ThesebasinswillprotectTownroadsfromerosionandminimizethe inflowofsedimentsto thelake. • Continuedzoningenforcement TheTownhasvigorouslypursuedzoningenforcementwiththeaimof achievingcompliancewithsignandsiteplancodes. TheTownhas alsobegunenforcingtheShorelineandWetiandsProtectionordinances withthe aimofprotectingTownwaterquality. •Keptto thescheduleofregularpropertyrevaluations This ensuresthatallproperties are assessedfairlyandareatmarket value. Inthisway, thepropertytaxburdenisdistributedequitably. It also avoids sharp increasesintaxesthatcanoccurifrevaluationsare notconductedperiodically. •Rt. 16UndergroundUtilitiesRelocation TheTownhasworkedwiththecommunityandutilitycompaniesto conductaconceptualdesignandcostanalysisforplacingallutility linesundergroundwhenRt. 16iswidenedsouthofBarnesRoad. The Boardispursuingfederalandstatefundingtofundtheproject. This willimprovetheviews atthegatewayto NorthConway. •IntervaleScenicVista The Boardstronglyopposedthe construction ofa multi-storyvisitor's centeratthevista. Consequentiy, theStateandacommunitygroup areworkingto designamoreappropriatefacility.
