Basedontheaboverecords,Q.farkac1seemstobefairlywidelydistributedathighel- evations in variousmountainranges innorthern Yunnan, northwesternSichuanand eastern Tibet. All collectingsites that giveexact elevations are closeto, or above 4,000m. Thespecimens fromShaluiShanbear the followinghabitat data: “Rinde, Pilze,Nadelstreu'';thespecimenfromTibetwastakeninanalpinemeadow. InthemalefromDeqentheparamereisonlyminutelynotchedmedioapica11y,and theapexofmedianlobeissharper thanshowninfigs 32and33inSMETANA,1997b, 466. However, this is considered fo liewithin the intraspecific variability of the species. As shown below this female specimen differs markedly fromthemalesbyitsratherpalecoloration,butinallotherectoskeleta1char- acters itmatchesthemperfectly.ThereforeIamreasonablysure,despitethefactthat malesofQmyauhavenotyetbeenfoundoncruelShan,thatthespecificassignment ofthespecimeniscorrect.Thespecimenisnottenera1,sothepalecolorcannotbeat- tributedtothis. 0ntheotherhand, itcannotbeexcludedthatthecoloration isnot nat- uraluntiladditional femalespecimensbecomeavailable. Female. Inallexternalcharacters,includingcoloration、quitesimilartoQ. faangSMETANA,1999canddifferentonlybythemalesexualcharacters. Male. First foursegmentsof fronttarsusnotappreciablydifferent fromthoseof Q. faang.Sternite8withfivelongsetaeoneachside;withshallowandrathernarrow, subarcuatemedioapical emargination, triangular areabeforeemargination flattened andsmooth(Fig 2).Genitalsegmentwithtergite10triangular,similartothatof . faang,butnarrower andmoremarkedlynarrowedtowardmoreacuteapexandwith lessnumeroussetaeatandnearapex(Fig 3);sternite9withshortbasalportion,sub- truncateapically,withtwosubapicalsetaeandsetationcharacteristicallyarrangedinto twolongitudinalgroups, inasimilarwayasthoseofQ fatang(Fig 4).Aedoeagus (Figs 5,6)relativelylarge,elongate;medianlobegraduallynarrowedanteriadtoabout anterior fourth and then dilated into narrowly spoon-shaped apical portion with broadlyroundedapex,andwithsmall toothon faceadjacent toparamere.Paramere largeandwide,coveringmostofmedianlobe,distinctlynotreachingapexofmedian lobe, anteriorly rather suddenly tapered intoshort, narrow apical portion withapex bearingminutemedioapical emargination; two finesetaeat apex oneach side of medioapica1emargination,twoslightlyshortersetaeateachlateralmarginbelowapex; undersideofparamerewith fourpegsetae formingatransversegroupwithtwosetae oneachsideofmidline;internalsacwithoutlargersclerotizedstructures. Fernaleunknown. Length7.7mm. Typematerial. Holotype(male):China:“Mt. cruelShanLeidongping2,365m alt.Sichuan”/“SWChina2-XI-1995S.Uenoleg''Temporarily intheSMETANAco1- 1ection, 0ttawa,Canada- tobeeventuallydepositedinthecollectionoftheNational ScienceMuseum,Tokyo,Japan. Geographical distribution. Quedius haw is at present known only from the cruelShaninwesternSichuan. Bionomics. Thespecimenrecordedabovewassiftedout fromhumusaccumu- latedinaforestofdeciduousandevergreen(Rhododendron)broadleavedtrees. RecognitionandComments. Qued1i,lshawbecomesthethirdspeciesoftheQ. euryaluscomplexwiththesetationofthemalesternite9characteristicallyarranged intotwolongitudinalgroups(QeuryalusandQ faangSMETANA,1999barethetwo otherspecies).ItmaybedistinguishedfromQ.faangbythecharactersgivenabove;Q eしlryalusdiffersfromg ha1,vbythelargersize,andbythemalesexualcharacters,par- ticularlybythelongerparamere(reachingapexofmedianlobe),andbythedifferently shapedscleritesofthemalegenitalsegment(seefigs2-6inSMETANA,1997). Inaddi- tion,QeuryalusseemstoberestrictedtotheGonggaShanmassive. Etymology. ThespecificepithetisavariantoftheChineseverb“hao”(tolike, tobefondof).Itreferstotheappearanceofthespecies. 186 AlesSMETANA Quedius(Microsaurus)dullsp nov. (Figs7-12) Description. Inallexternalcharacterssimilar toQ erythr・asSMETANA, 1997a butdifferentasfollows:colorationsomewhatpaler,pronotumbrunneopiceous,gradu- allybecomingmarkedlypalertowardposteriorandlateralmargins,elytrabrunneousto rufobrunneous,apicalmarginsofabdominal tergitesmarkedlypaler.Headwitheyes smaller,temperathereforelessdistinctlyshorterthaneyesseenfromabove(ratio0.51, comparedtoratio0.34inQeryth1・as). Male. Firstfoursegmentsoffronttarsusnotappreciablydifferent fromthoseof Qerythras,segmenttwoslightlywider thanapexoftibia(ratio1.17).Sternite8with sixlongsetaeoneachside(seeCommetlts);withmoderatelywideanddeep,almost arcuatemedioapica1emargination,ratherlargetriangularareabeforeemarginationflat- tenedand smooth apicalmarginwithdenselyset,moderatelylongsetae,generalseta_ tionofstemitefine(Fig7).Genitalsegmentwithtergite10moderatelywidelytrian_ gular,narrowlyarcuateapically,with fiveapicalsetaeanda fewadditionalsetaejn frontofthem(Fig 8);sternite9withwide,shortbasalportion,apicalportionwide, subparaIIeI-sided,withapexwidelysubtruncate,withoutdifferentiatedsubapicalsetae, allsetaeveryfine(Fig 9).Aedoeagus(Figs.10,11)moderatelylarge,ingeneralrather narrow;medianlobegradually,evenlynarrowedtowardacuteapex,withsmallapjca1 toothon faceadjacent toparamere.Paramerelarge,coveringmostofmedjan1obe; markedly,arcuatelywidenedinapicalthirdandthennarrowedintoshort,almostpara1_ lei-Sided,narrowlyandfairlydeeplyemarginateapicalportionthatmarkedlyexceeds apexofmedianlobe;twominutesetaeatapexoneachsideofmedioapica1emargina_ tionandtwoquiteminutesetaeateachlateralmarginbelowapex;undersjdeofpara_ merewithnumeroussensorypegsetae,10-12oneachsideofmedioapica1emargjna_ tion;internalsacwithoutlargersclerotizedstructures. Female. Recognitionandcomments. QuediusduhmaybedistinguishedfromQerythlas andtheothersimilarspeciesbythecharacteristicaedoeagusandtergite10ofthefe- malegenitalsegment.Twoof thelargesetaeonthemalestemite8aremissing,but theirsocketsarepresent.Theyareshownbydottedlinesinthedrawing(Fig 7). Etymology. Thespecificepithet istheChineseverbduh,avariantof“du”(to envy,tobejealousof). Quedius(Mic,osaulus)gueyspnov. (Figs.13-18) Description. Inallexternalcharactersquitesimilar toQ koelanddifferentby boththemaleand femalesexualcharacters. Male. QuediusgueyisatpresentknownonlyfromtheQin LingShanmountainsinsouthernShaanxi. Bionomics. No details are available about the collection circumstances of the twospecimensoftheoriginalseries,exceptthattheyweresiftedina“mountain for- est”. Recognitionandcomments. Quediusgueyisquitewellcharacterizedbyboth theshapeoftheparamereandthetergite10ofthefemalegenitalsegment.Bothspeel_ mensoftheori9ina1seriesaretenera1,withthesurfaceofbothpronota(particularlyof thatoftheallotype)showingnumerousirregularimpressions.Theaedoeagusofthe holotypewasreceived fairlydamage(i,thereforeitisnotillustratedinthecustomary way,sincethemiddleportionofthemedianlobeisinbadshape.Theparamerewas Separated fromthemedianlobe,thereforeitwasnotpossibletoestablishtherelative Positionsofthetipofthemedianlobeandthatoftheparamere.Despitethedamages totheaedoeagus,theshapeoftheparamerecombinedwiththepositionoftheapjca1 Setae,andlocationofthesensorypegsetae,aswellastheshapeandsetatjonofthe apicalPortionoftergite10ofthefemalegenitalsegmentleavenodoubtabouttheva_ Iidityofthisspecies. QuediusgueyoccursintheQinLingShanmountainstogetherwjthQduhThe dataavailableatPresentsuggestthatthetwospeciesarelikelyseparatedecologically.
