Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers
It gives me great pleasure to welcome all of you to the Hong Kong
Institute of Construction Managers 20th Anniversary cum Construction
Management Awards 2016 Presentation Banquet. I would like to thank
Professor Frederick Ma, Chairman of MTR Corporation Limited for being
our Guest of Honour tonight.
Our theme, Takes up Challenges for a Better Tomorrow, explores
and celebrates our Institute’s growth and success through our 20 years,
and the many contributions our members have made in construction
management, quality and safety in Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers was launched on
the 5th May in 1997 with the original name of the Hong Kong Institute
of Builders. With over 600 founding members joining from The Society
of Builders, Hong Kong, the Institute had a solid foundation to foster the
progression and systematic development of construction management
practices.
The Institute was established to promote professional excellence in
the management in both building and civil works, and to promote
the advancement and expertise which constitutes professionalism
in construction management. And after 20 years of growth and
achievement, these missions remain the core of HKICM objectives.
In addition to celebrating our 20th Anniversary this year, we reached
another important milestone in 2016 by surpassing 2000 members.
We approached the 20th anniversary with forward thinking programmes,
particularly to ensure our members and our industry are meeting their
obligations to contribute to Hong Kong society. For this we require
collaboration with fellow professional associations and institutes to
face challenges together and to work towards a better Hong Kong for
the generations of tomorrow.

Message from President
In short, it has been a privilege and an honour to serve as President of
the HKICM. I want to share my heartfelt gratitude for this opportunity
to all our Council Members, Committee Chairs, Secretariats and all
members for your unfailing support throughout the year.
Finally, I wish to express sincere gratitude to the Organizing Committee,
led by our Vice President Cr Daniel Shum, for your tireless efforts and
contributions to deliver a fantastic event. And a very special thank you
also goes to all the sponsors who have generously contributed to ensure
that the 20th Anniversary Celebration and the inaugural Construction
Management Awards would be such a special occasion for the Hong
Kong Institute of Construction Managers.
May everyone please join me in wishing the Institute many more years
of success and accomplishments! Thank you and have a wonderful

Presentation Banquet
On behalf of the Annual Dinner Organizing Committee, I am delighted
to welcome you to the HKICM 20th Anniversary cum Construction
Management Awards 2016 Presentation Banquet. It is our great privilege
to have Professor Frederick Ma, Chairman of MTR Corporation Limited
as our Guest of Honour.
The theme of tonight’s annual dinner is “Takes up Challenges for Better
Tomorrow”, which illustrates the challenges professional practitioners
have faced in order to achieve today’s success.
This year, the Institute launched the Construction Management Awards
to recognize construction management teams and individuals who have
contributed a great deal for the betterment of Hong Kong. I know the
Awards will encourage our members and practitioners to continue to
champion excellence in the construction profession.
I would like to express my gratitude to all guests, sponsors, fellow
members, and professionals for their continued support for and
participation in HKICM activities and events. Furthermore, my sincere
appreciation goes to all members of the Annual Dinner Organizing
Committee and all members of the Institute for their dedicated efforts
and commitment to the 20th Anniversary celebration and Construction
Management Awards Banquet.

I warmly congratulate the Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers
(HKICM) on the occasion of its 20th Anniversary!
Over the past years, the HKICM has played an important role to promote
the development of construction industry, and to draw attention of the
general public to the systematic enhancement of the quality and
