Originally, the conference was planned to take place in the beautiful city of Hyderabad, India, but due to the uncertain COVID-19 situation itwasfinallyheldvirtually. The ER conference series aims to bring together researchers and practitioners buildingfoundationsofconceptualmodelingand/orapplyingconceptualmodelingina wide range of software engineering fields. Conceptual modeling has never been more important in this age of uncertainty. As individuals, organizations, and nations face new and unexpected challenges, software and data must be developed that can cope with and help address this new uncertainty in an ever-faster changing world. Concep- tual modeling can be used to describe, understand, and cope with increasing levels of uncertaintyinourworld.Conferencetopicsofinterestincludethetheoriesofconcepts andontologiesunderlyingconceptualmodeling, modelinglanguages, methodsandtools fordevelopingandcommunicatingconceptualmodels, andtechniquesfortransforming conceptualmodelsintoeffectiveimplementations. This year, ER 2022 chose as an overall theme “Conceptual Modeling to Support Big Data Analytics and AI”. Big data analytics demands modeling complex data in a varietyofmodelsandaccommodatingthe5V’s(Volume,Velocity,Variety,Value,and Veracity). Can the conceptual modeling community seize the opportunity to meet the needsofbigdataanalytics?Conceptualmodelinghelpsdeepunderstandingofdataand knowledge that is the backbone of AI systems.
