Oralhistory isamethodofcollectinghistoricalinformationthroughtape-recordedinterviewsbetweena narratorwith firsthandknowledge ofhistorically significantevents and a well-informed interviewer, with the goal of preservingsubstantiveadditionstothehistoricalrecord.Thetaperecordingistranscribed,lightlyeditedfor continuityandclarity,andreviewedbytheinterviewee. Thecorrectedmanuscriptisindexed,boundwith photographsandillustrativematerials, andplacedinTheBancroftLibraryattheUniversityofCalifornia, Berkeley,andinotherresearchcollectionsforscholarlyuse. Becauseitisprimarymaterial, oralhistoryis notintendedtopresentthefinal,verified,orcompletenarrativeofevents.
