For this new edition, the editors have been able to consult the Bank of English®, a unique computer-based collection of over 524 million words of written and spoken English. Analysis of this data enables the editors to give the user the most up-to-date information about how English is written and spoken today. The dictionary now contains new items such as bioterrorism, globalization, ringtone and satnav, and new senses of words such as bookmark, fusion, and hit. The Canadian English Dictionary also gives in-depth coverage of Canadian English, and reflects its uniqueness and variety. Entries such as Kabloona, parkade and tupik are included, in addition to many of the variant forms found in Canada. As well as defining a wide variety of words, this dictionary contains many other features which are designed to be helpful to the user. For example, a simple phonetic respelling is given for pronunciations which could cause difficulty. All irregular spelling forms are shown. Labels inform the user if a word is, for instance, slang, rare, or literary. To make all this and other information easy to find, the layout of the pages is clear and uncluttered. All these features make Collins Canadian English Dictionary an easy-to-use and indispensable guide to today's English.
