With this in mind, it is an honor to recognize Illinois colleges and universities — its students, faculty, staff and alumni — by offering Illinois motorists Collegiate License Plates for their vehicles. By purchasing these plates, you will be helping support scholarships for Illinois college students while displaying your pride for your favorite school or alma mater. All Collegiate Plates are being redesigned as part of my office's statewide replating effort. I urge you to become a partner in higher education by purchasing a set of Collegiate Plates. ILLINOIS STATE LIBRARY Jesse White W DLlfiDBEb T Secretary of State Collegiate License Plate Facts • Issued to any Illinois resident who requests Collegiate License Plates. • The plate design features the colors of the participating college or university. • Cost: $40 additional original issuance fee; $27 upon renewal • Plates may be issued to passenger cars and B-trucks. • Registration is staggered. • A dealership may apply for Collegiate License Plates for you on a first-time registration. • A leased vehicle is eligible for Collegiate License Plates. • All motor vehicles registered and operated in Illinois must be covered by liability insurance - insurance that covers property damage and/or injuries you may cause others in an accident. Participating Colleges and Universities Augustana College Bradley University Concordia University DePaul University Eastern Illinois University Illinois State University Loyola University Chicago Malcolm X College Millikin University Northern Illinois University Northwestern University University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign University of Illinois at Chicago University of Illinois at Springfield Western Illinois University How to Apply Many Illinois public and private not-for-profit colleges and universities are participating in the Collegiate License Plate Program. Call the individual institution or the Secretary of Sta j's office at 800-252-8980 to see if the institution of your choice is participating. You may apply at the time your current license plates expire by submitting the following: • Request for Collegiate License Plates • Registration renewal application • $118 fee, which includes the $78 standard registration fee and $40 original issuance fee, $25 of which goes to either the State University Trust Fund for a public university or the University Grant Fund for a private university. If you want Collegiate License Plates before your current plates expire, submit the following: • Request for Collegiate License Plates • Completed registration application • Current registration identification card • $40 original issuance fee plus a $14 replacement plate fee. For a newly acquired vehicle, the initial Collegiate License Plate fee and the regular registration fee are required, plus $65 if title-related. Collegiate Plate numbers are assigned as applications are received. Vanity or personalized plates are not available. An additional $27 fee is required annually upon renewal of Collegiate License Plates, $25 of which goes to the State University Trust Fund for a public university or the University Grant Fund for a private, not-for-profit university.
