History With the first students admitted to Edison in the fall of1962, Edison College celebrates 44 years ofservice to South- west Florida this year. Bachelors degrees,Associate inArts andAssociate in Science degrees areofferedat Edisonas well as various certificate programs. From its first quarters in the old Gwyne Institute Building in downtown Fort Myers, Edison moved to its permanent 140-acre campus in south Lee County in June 1965. Following a master plan designed to provide for growth and future needs, the Lee Campus has 25 buildings, including the BarbaraB. Mann PerformingArts Hall. Edison's CollierCampusopenedinMarchof1992. Thebeautiful campus is locatedonan 80-acresitenearState Road 951 andRattlesnake HammockRoad, in eastNaples. The Charlotte Campus opened in 1997. Locatedon a200-acre site on Airport Road in Punta Gorda, the campus is an excellent addition to the Charlotte area. Edison also provides outreach services to students in Hendry and Glades counties. EdisonCollegeisgovernedbyitsDistrictBoardofTrustees,composedofninerepresentativesfromCharlotte,Collier, Hendry, Glades and Lee Counties. The members are appointed to four-year terms by the Governor ofFlorida. Currently about350professional andsupportstaffmembersprovidethefull-time instructional andsupportservices forthemorethan 15,000 credit and nearly 3,000 non-credit students who participate in Edison courses andprograms each year. In a beautiful and naturalistic environment, the campus offers a full range ofhigher education services with 11 buildings arranged in a traditional aca- demic setting.
