CognitionandMulti-AgentInteraction FromCognitiveModelingtoSocialSimulation This book explores the intersection between cognitive sciences and social sciences. In particular, it explores the intersection between individual cognitive modeling and modeling of multi-agent inter- action. The two contributing fields – individual cognitive modeling (especiallycognitivearchitectures)andmodelingofmulti-agentinter- action(includingsocialsimulationand,tosomeextent,multi-agent systems)–haveseenphenomenalgrowthinrecentyears. However, the interaction of these two fields has not been sufficiently devel- oped.Theinteractionofthetwomaybemoresignificantthaneither alone.Theybringwiththemenormousintellectualcapitals.Thesein- tellectualcapitalscanbeprofitablyleveragedincreatingtruesynergy between the two fields, leading to better understanding of both in- dividualcognitionandsocioculturalprocesses.Itispossiblethatan integrativefieldofstudyincognitiveandsocialsciencesisemerging andwearelayingthefoundationforit.
