So he was excited to have tickets for Electric Zoo, an electronic music festival held in New York City over Labor Day weekend 2013. He arrived at the three-day event on Friday, August 30, with a group of friends. Jeffrey and his friends were among the tens of thousands of teens and young adults who had come from across the country to attend the festival. Festivalgoers danced nonstop as deejays from around the world spun track after track. Arms raised in the air, they jumped in unison to the throbbing beats. Some wore elaborate costumes—masks, wigs, wings, and tutus—while others settled for bikini tops or T-shirts. At 5:43 p.m., Jeffrey tweeted a picture of one of the stages at the event. Only a few hours later, he was rushed to the hospital. He had developed a high fever and a rapid heartbeat after taking MDMA—also known MDMA, also known as Ecstasy or Molly, is popular among young adults attending music festivals. 7 as Molly or Ecstasy. For roughly one month, he had been abusing inhalants. A friend had shown him how to use household chemicals, such as computer dust cleaner, to get a short-lasting high.
