Clopton Bridge is an English Country Dance. The formation is four men
facing four ladies in a mini contra line set as shown to the left. The men are
the squares. The ladies are the circles. The caller is the star. Here is the
figure.
Description
….1-8 First lady (nearest the caller), fourth man (farthest from the caller)
turn Right-Hand Around
C .9-16 Same two Left-Hand Around
17-24 First man (nearest the caller), fourth lady (farthest from the caller)
turn Right-Hand Around
25-32 Same two Left-Hand Around
33-40 Center four Star Right
41-48 Same four Star Left
49-56 Head couple slide to the foot
57-64 All two-hand turn your partner
Most of the videos on YouTube show the dance performed with a HopStep. For those of
you that own Dancing for Busy People, the dance is described on page 285.
The hopstep is fine for some parties, but the dance can also be danced with a walking step.
All you have to do is change the music you use. I use a tune called Mrs. Hays” Delight from
the LSF. Click here. My reason is simple. I seldom call beginner parties where the hopstep
would be more appropriate.
