Clinical Advances in Cognitive Psychotherapy THEORY AND APPLICATION Biographies E. Thomas Dowd is Professor of Psychology at Kent State University in Ohio, USA. He was President of the International Association for Cognitive Psychotherapy, is President of the American Board of Behavioral Psychology, and is a Fellow of the American Psychological Asso- ciation in two divisions. He holds board certifi- cation (diplomates) in Behavioral Psychology and Counseling Psychology. He is the author of Cog- nitive Hypnotherapy, published in 2000 by Jason Aronson, and several other book chapters and articles on the topic, including one in the Hand- book of Clinical Hypnosis and another in the Casebook of Clinical Hypnosis, both published by APA Press. His research interests are in hypnotherapy, psychological reactance, and social influence processes. He has presented at numerous conferences in the USA, Europe, the Middle East, and South America. Robert Leahy (B.A., Ph.D., Yale) is the Editor of the Journal of Cognitive Psychotherapy and the President-elect of the International Associa- tion of Cognitive Psychotherapy. He serves on the executive committees of the International Association of Cognitive Psychotherapy and the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Dr. Leahy is the Founder and Director of the American Institute for Cognitive Therapy in New York City (www.CognitiveTherapyNYC.com) and he is cur- rently Associate Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Weill-Cornell Med- ical School. Dr. Leahy's books include Cognitive Therapy: Basic Principles and Applications, Practicing Cognitive Therapy, Treatment Plans and Inter- ventions for Depression and Anxiety Disorders (with Stephen Holland,), Over- coming Resistance in Cognitive Therapy and Bipolar Disorder: A Cognitive Therapy Approach (with Newman, Beck, Reilly-Harrington and Gyulai).
