IIT-JEE, the entrance examination for IITs and AIEEE for NITs and other deemed universities were merged together to form JEE, a new entrance examination having two parts viz. Main and Advanced. Content wise, largely the JEE (Main) is nothing but AIEEE and JEE Advanced is almost same as erstwhile IIT-JEE. However some changes have been incorporated into the overall process of eligibility etc. JEE (Main) is the first examination any candidate seeking admission into IITs, ISM, NITs and Deemed Universities must appear. JEE (Main) is having one paper of 3 hour duration with objective questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The examination is held on 1st Sunday of April every year. The JEE (Main) is conducted in two separate modes i.e. Offline (Pen and Paper Based Examination) and Online (Computer Based Examination). The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) is limited to three. About 2,20,000 top candidates: Top 1,11,100 (50.5 %) Common Merit List, Top 59,000(27%) Other Backward Classes- Non creamy layer OBC (NCL), Top 33,000 (15 %) Scheduled Caste (SC), Top 16,500(7.5 %) Scheduled Tribe (ST) based on the performance of JEE (Main) (Paper 1) (including all categories) are eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced). The JEE (Advanced) examination is like old IIT-JEE having two separate papers with both of them containing questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of 3 hour duration each. The questions are objective type but each question tests the student on the thoroughness of his/her knowledge of the subject. The examination is held in May end every year. Prerna Classes Prospectus 2017 I Page 1 Admission for IITs is based on rank obtained in the JEE (Advanced). A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a maximum of two times in consecutive years irrespective of whether or not he/she passed the Qualifying Examination. Admission for NITs and other deemed universities is on the basis of score in JEE (Main) About Prerna Classes Prerna Classes is the leading institute in eastern India for preparing students for engineering.
