Second, I wish to thank my family, my parents, Dorothy and Edmund, my adult children, Arayna and Matthew, my daughter-in-law Isabella and my new granddaughter Emilia for their continuing love, support, and understanding during the work on this edition. Nurses have an opportunity to meet the crucial mental health needs of one of our most vulnerable populations and this text is intended as a tool to assist in that mission. Edilma Yearwood I wish to dedicate this second edition of the textbook first to my family. My husband, Lloyd Pearson, my children, Neal, David, and Elizabeth, and my two grandchildren, Liam and Adalyn, have all contributed in different ways to my thinking about development and mental health. Their support is invaluable to my practice and functioning. Second, I want to dedicate this book to the myriad of children, adolescents, and families I have had the privilege to know in the last 40 years of work as a child psychiatric nurse. They have been the ultimate teachers in my ongoing quest for the most effective and carefully crafted treatment interventions available to optimize mental health. Geri Pearson I dedicate this book to my family – my husband Lloyd, my children Kristina, Michael, and Sonya, my granddaughter Maya, my sisters Sharon, Brenda, Sheila, and Michele, and my mother Kather Lene Alexander and mother-in-law Gloria Rerrie Chang. They and many others have supported me in all my professional endeavors. Students confirm my faith in future generations of nurses. Patients enrich my life and give me purpose and direction to always do more. Most importantly, I want to acknowledge the chil- dren and adolescents who are the inspiration for writing this text, and to those among them who will benefit by the impact of the book on nursing education and practice.
