I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to a number of people whom I have met and interacted during this journey. I would like to begin by thanking my family. Dad, thank you for teaching me the value of education and giving me this wonderful opportunity to pursue my dream. Mom, thank you for each drop of sweat and tear you have sacrificed for me. You have taught me the meaning of unconditional love that I will treasure for the rest of my life. To my sisters, thank you for all the encouragements and sacrifices you have made for me. To my grandparents, no matter where you are, I hope you know how much I appreciate your love and care. You have made me who I am today. To my aunt, thank you for being my "second mom." I certainly would not have been here without you. From the bottom of my heart, I am forever thankful to have each of you in my life. About 7 years ago, my career goal was to make rent and ensure survival of my family. At that time, a thought of pursuing a Ph.D. was less than a fantasy to me. I am endlessly thankful that Dr. Lori Barker encouraged and mentored me to pursue higher education in psychology. I also want to thank the Ronald McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program of Cal Poly Pomona for their help and support in preparing me for graduate school. I also want to express my appreciation to several wonderful people from the University of Missouri. To Dr. Michael Mobley, my previous advisor and dissertation committee, thank you for providing me with such a solid foundation of counseling ii psychology. You have taught me how to be a better researcher, teacher, and counselor; but most importantly, you have taught me how to be a better person.
