Put simply, they specialize in personal attention. “Professors here expect to work with you one-on-one,” says David, a sophomore biology and math major. “The main thing they say is, ‘if you don’t understand something, ask for help. That’s why _ we’re here. We want to help you any way we can.’ ” Importantly, the help you get goes beyond just coursework. Professors here will groom you to compete with the best, whether that means guiding you through original research projects, helping you design a professional career plan, or calling people to connect you with jobs and graduate schools. “At Centenary, you create partnerships with your professors that affect your life,” says Corey, Centenary’s student body president. “It’s a big reason why students here are so successful.” Professors will challenge you Imagine you are in a class with just 10 or so students. Centenary makes sure you get it. The Centenary Plan — education for life Through our Centenary Plan, you’ll gain valuable life experience in real-life, hands-on settings. Not only will this plan add substance to your resume, it will also give you the chance to try out your career interests, to experience other cultures, and to express your personal values. Here are the three powerful components of the plan: A prime professional internship. Would you like to be an intern at a Fortune 500 company? An aid to an attorney or a senator? A research assistant at one of Louisiana’s largest medical centers? These are just a few of the options available to our students — including assignments across the U.S. and around the world. You’ll find a variety of positions to choose from, usually a semester in length. And yours might even end with a job offer. A trip to another culture at home or abroad. Get ready for exciting, eye-opening and possibly even life-changing experiences. Study theater in London — or Greek in Greece. Live with a host family in Ekaterinburg, Russia. Accompany your biology professor to Central America’s Talamanca mountains. Find out how the Hopi tribe gets along with its Navajo neighbors. Whether you choose a three-week-long trip or stay for a semester, you’ll be learning to live and succeed in a multicultural world, and you’ll come home with an array of new understandings. A short stint for a cause you believe in. What’s most important to you? For this part of the Centenary Plan, you volunteer at a community service project that appeals to you. Like a United Way agency. A home-building project with Habitat for Humanity. Or an educational advocacy group that supports people with AIDS. You can choose to make a difference single-handedly — or join with a friend or a group as you give a few days of your time to demonstrating your knowledge and dedication. Taken together, these life experiences will give you practical tools for success, plus sure-fire ways to set yourself apart from the crowd. 9 Edward Wicker Business/Spanish New Orleans, Louisiana Cctl tenary I has been a perfect fit for me, even though wasn’t sure what field I’d go into when I arrived.
