Catholics In Media Associates Twentieth Annual Mass, Brunch Buffet and Awards Ceremony The Bel-Air Bay Club Sunday, April 14, 2013 Catholics In Media Associates Catholics In Media Associates was formed by working professionals in the entertainment industry whose initial purpose was to share personal concerns of faith and spirituality as they are experienced in the workplace. From that early beginning came the CIMA Awards recognizing those projects and people in the entertainment industry who, by their work, have made clearer the Word of God. These awards were created to promote and applaud films, television programs and individuals that uplift the spirit and help us better understand what it is to be part of the human family. The CIMA Sculpture The very first medium in the world was light. CIMA’s new award reflects the light of God’s enduring love for humanity, indeed all creation, as demonstrated by the storytellers and stories this award recognizes. Its flawless equilateral triangular design suggests the constant nature of the Triune God in a turning world. The hand-polished optic crystal material both reflects and refracts ambient light, allowing that transparency which enables us to see possibilities beyond and to be seen in our daily reality. The beveled angles of the uneven cuts create a prism that colors our world with the full spectrum of character and feeling. The laser etching in this art glass award is in deep burgundy, CIMA’s trademark color, and a link to our history. Special Guest Host Catherine Hicks Actress Catherine Hicks is not only a talented and popular Emmy-nominated actress, Catherine received the Padre Pio Award from the Capuchin Franciscan Friars, has served as Spokesperson for Catholic Relief Services and helped create a Public Service Announcement for relief in Darfur. She also serves as a trustee on The Holly- wood Arts Council. Honorary Award Presenting the Award: Rev. Anthony Scannell, OFM Cap. Father Tony was one of the founding members of CIMA, and CIMA honored him with its very first Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993. He continues to serve on CIMA’s Advisory Council, is still active in parish ministry, and leads the “Soup and Cinema” series of film presenta- tions and Scripture reflections during Advent and Lent in three L.A. parishes. Honorary Chairs Tom and Jane Abbott As longtime supporters of CIMA, Tom and Jane are deeply honored to serve as this year’s Honorary Chairs. Since 1996, Jane has served CIMA in various capacities, ranging from Event Coordinator to President. Tom held Jane up through each appointment. After graduat- ing from University of Maryland, Jane was fortunate to be able to combine her love of teaching and acting, through numerous Educational Television series. While performing at the United States Naval Academy, she met Midshipman Tom Abbott. They married six months later and moved to California. After multiple moves and deployments, they decided to leave the military and start a family, resulting in sons Jeremy and Steve. During Tom’s final assignment as Executive Support Officer to the Secretary of Defense, he graduated from George Washington Law School. He then joined the law firm of McKenna Long & Aldridge, where he has been a partner for 25 years and Chair of the country’s largest Govern- ment Contracts practice. Jane remains a proud member of SAG-AFTRA and Actors Equity, although most of her spare time is now spent with Tom volunteering at several service centers for the homeless and disenfranchised, and at their Sherman Oaks parish of St. Francis de Sales. Their favorite ongoing projects are the Soup & Cinema series, started by CIMA’s founder, Fr. Tony Scannell, OFM, and year-round softball in the Lawyers’ League. Tom & Jane wish CIMA continued success and look forward to celebrating its good works for many years to come! Television Series Award Presenting the Award: Who will it be?
