Aelf the warmth, vibrancy, and Apirit that embody ‘‘the GDA experience.” JOHN M. DOGGETT, JR., HEADMASTER GOVERNOR DUMMER ACADEMY I 1 Brief History of the Milestone In early colonial times, granite milestones marked the progress of travelers journeying along Old Bay Road, the main thoroughfare connecting coastal Maine and Boston, Massa¬ chusetts. One such marker stood outside the summer home of Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor William Dummer and his wife Catherine, who later bequeathed their estate for the foundation of a school. Dated 1708, the 33rd mile marker still stands at the corner of GDA’s Mansion House lawn, near the Little Red School House where Master Moody in¬ structed the first graduates of the Academy. The history and rich traditions of this Academy are alive on campus today, inspiring a commit¬ ment to our heritage and to innovation. Marked by personal growth, strong friend¬ ships, and intellectual and physical challenges, • V high school years are an important part of one’s path through life.
