It’s one of my favorite events, and taking a break from guest duties I took a wander through the dealers room, intrigued to see what was on offer, when the beautiful face of dear Ingrid Pitt immediately caught my eye. She was on the cover of Bobb’s previous book, Ingrid Pitt: Queen of Horror, so I stopped and we chatted about my recently departed and still much, much, missed friend. Toward the end of our conversation Bobb asked if I would like to have a book similar to Ingrid’s. I thought it would be a wonderful idea but had to explain that after thinking about it for a while, earlier in the year I had actually started working on my autobiography, with all the scripts and contracts, clippings and photographs that I’d kept over the years finally being retrieved from storage only a month or so before I’d left for this event. Still, because of his boundless enthusiasm and knowledge of my work, I got a really good feeling talking to Bobb and because I knew he would have my best interests at heart, didn’t see why he shouldn’t go ahead with his own book since it would be less personal than mine, concentrating on the casts and crews, accompanied by his own cri- tiques of the various films and television programs I’ve been in over the years. What I particularly liked was seeing the cast and crew getting the recognition they deserve. If the director is the beating heart of every production, it’s the invaluable input from all the people from the various departments that provide the blood and muscle and sinew that helps bring each project to life. Even if we didn’t always have a particularly generous budget, for me as an actress they did their very best to help create the many different worlds—through the costumes, make-up, sets and lighting—that my characters inhabited, and the more real they made it, the easier it was for me to play the part. Because audiences don’t always pay attention or even stay around to read the credits there’s a wealth of talented artists and craftsmen who, outside of the industry, don’t always get the recognition they rightly deserve. Since a number of those talented people have sadly passed away over the years since we all worked together, as well as remembering them with great affection I’m very pleased to see them recorded here so fans unfamiliar with some of the names might take the opportunity to seek out their other work. So I thank them for all the effort they put into all the productions I worked on, and I thank Bobb for all his hard work putting this all together. Hopefully, when I eventually finish writing my own book the two can sit side by side and enhance each other. So, nice one, Bobb! 1
