I dedicate this book to my husband, Michael, who is a rheumatologist, and who has helped me understand the depth and complexity of these many diseases, the arthridites. Further, he has helped me over the years with most of my books, reviewing and critiquing, and was most helpful in reviewing this book. —Ann Schmidt Luggen As I was growing up, I watched my grandmother and mother deal with arthritis. Since becoming a nurse nearly 40 years ago, I have cared for thousands of adults with arthritis. Now in my late fifties, I have arthritis. Writing and editing this book was an important com- ponent of my personal growth through exploring all avenues of infor- mation related to the many facets of this disease. I dedicate this book to all of those people who have been touched by arthritis personally or through family, friends, patients, or acquaintances. I hope a cure for musculoskeletal disorders will occur in the coming decades. In the meantime, this book will provide salient information to those seeking knowledge of caring for the older adult with arthritis. —Sue E.
