Praise for CCCCCaaaaappppptttttuuuuurrrrreeeeeddddd!!!!! “Captured! fills in many of the inevitable gaps in our knowledge of the famous Betty and Barney Hill case, and is therefore a must for anyone interested in the remarkable gestation period of UFO abduction research. It is touching but not surprising to read that the brave and prescient investigators who took the Hills’ experience seriously assumed that it was a unique, momentous, and isolated event, and never suspected that, instead, it was only the first of thousands of similar covert encounters from the ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s to receive wide public attention. Captured! abundantly demonstrates that the most important aspect of the Hills’ 1961 abduction lies in their personal courage and integrity in permitting their frightening experience and its later investigation to become public. Tens of thousands of abductees have benefitted from the Hills’ extraordinary role in opening doors to the serious study of the UFO abduction phenomenon, thus making possible new therapeutic strategies to help treat their traumas. In the pages of Captured!, Betty and Barney Hill emerge, not as victims, but as true, undaunted modern heroes.” —Budd Hopkins World-renowned UFO abduction researcher, author of Witnessed and Missing Time “Many books have been written about people being abducted by aliens, but Captured! tops them all. It is powerful, detailed, and personal. Drawing on the actual diaries written by Betty Hill, this book exposes the shocking events that took place during and after she and her husband Barney were abducted by aliens in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Further, it documents their many hours of hypnotherapy with Dr. Benjamin Simon and their close ties with military personnel at Pease Air Force Base. Capped by official government records of UFO activity at the time, a replication of the Star Map seen by Betty, and an analysis of the clothing she was wearing at the time of the abduction, all mundane explanations for the event have been eradicated. It really happened.” —John F. Schuessler Mutual UFO Network, Inc., International Director, Emeritus “With Captured!, internationally known UFO investigator/nuclear physicist/lecturer Stanton Friedman, and Betty and Barney Hill’s niece, Kathleen Marden, take the historically significant UFO event of the Hills’ double abduction and educate the reader with meaningful, typically never mentioned, rich in too-many-to-list details that show the Hills to be blood and flesh, neighbors-next-door-type individuals—not merely footnotes in a UFO double abduction case. The revelations of previously little known personal details of their abduction experience trauma impressed me—a hypnotherapist dealing with abduction trauma—with the similarity of Betty’s and Barney’s encounters to my own subjects.” —Yvonne Smith, C.Ht. Director, Close Encounters Resource Organization Praise for TTTTToooooppppp SSSSSeeeeecccccrrrrreeeeettttt/////MMMMMaaaaajjjjjiiiiiccccc “The most explosive book yet on UFOs.” —Star Magazine “Friedman operates mostly as a scientist, carefully weighing all evidence before coming to a conclusion.” —Library Journal “This book will delight those who can’t get enough of crashed saucers and government cover-ups.” —Booklist “Friedman has been involved in UFO research for more than a quarter century. During that time, he has struggled tirelessly against a vast amount of resistance on almost every level. He has uncovered hoaxes, discovered hidden truths, and has fought arrogant bureaucrats and fallacy-happy UFO debunkers, not to mention other researchers eagar to discredit him for their own ends. He is one of the few truly professional UFO researchers.” —Whitley Strieber New York Times best-selling author of Communion T T S H E R U E T O R Y W ’ O F T H E O R L D S F D I R S T O C U M E N T E D A A L I E N B D U C T I O N C A P T U R E D ! (Perhaps they had forgotten because it was so long ago in their cultural history, or perhaps they had bypassed the zipper period of devel- opment and jumped directly to the Velcro period.) And after all these years I am still surprised that they were surprised that Barney’s teeth could be removed, but Betty’s couldn’t. Did they also bypass the false teeth era? Or perhaps the aliens don’t have teeth. So now we know that way back then they didn’t know everything. But they did demonstrate their technical superiority by performing on Betty what appears to have been an amniocentesis several years before that procedure was common in Earth hospitals. Well, it seemed to be an amniocentesis, but maybe it was something else far more advanced. Will we ever know? And my mind still boggles over the way Betty allowed all that pink dusty stuff to just blow away in the wind. It was chemical evidence of the abduction! And then there were the shiny spots on the car with the rotating magnetic fields that were ignored by investigator Walter Webb. What? Did you say rotating magnetic fields in the metal of a car? That’s impossible! Reading this book I felt that “it’s deja vu all over again,” except this time I was learning the answers to questions I had when I first read about Bettyand Barney Hill almost 40 years ago. Furthermore, I now had the benefit of 40 years of UFO history and my own investigations into nu- merous sightings. Way back then, in that ufologically more innocent era, when flying saucers seen in the sky and perhaps on the ground 9
