The Name Change Committee invites you to consider this possibility with us. ilealKe eled=0~,7 Canadian Union College has become a school that, along with the church it serves and the world in which it operates, is vastly different from what it was even a decade ago. Accreditation for degree-granting status, record-setting enrolments, and program offerings which more nearly reflect career opportunities for the next century are just a few recent changes. With these changes, there is an ever-widening gulf between perceptions that the name invokes and facts as to what the college offers and represents. A. The word union no longer exists in the official name of the church in Canada (once the Canadian Union Conference). The official name for the church is, The Seventh-dayAdventist Church in Canada. Outside of Adventist circles, where the designation once referred to the organized church body, the term often evokes nothing other than an image of organized labour. B. The word college does not accurately reflect the three- and four-year degree-granting status. There are many two-year under-graduate community and vocational institutions in Canada which use the term "college" in their name. Canadian Union College has a responsibility to its students who graduate with degrees from this institution. Because the Church is no longer in a position to hire the majority of CUC's graduates, the college must accurately reflect in its name, the reputability of the degrees it grants. elfealve dro=ireaer 4:,(4,1 Canadian Union College is committed to preserving the heritage of the institution. Past name changes have en- hanced the college's reputation and accurately identified the academic reality in which it operates.
