Opening by: Lisa Worley and Ian Shenk 1 66 If these walls What do you mean walls can't talk? Yeah, we're simple, made out of brick and concrete, but it's not what you think. You have to use your imagination. It's kind of like when Coach Palmer says to, "Take it to another level." We've been standing around here for 45 years watching the fashions change from poodle skirts to grunge, and the technol¬ ogy from typewriters to Power Mac's with CD Roms. We've seen 5,726 graduates pass through our doors and it's hard to believe there will be no more. Through all of the hard¬ ships and victories, laughter and joy, gossip and events — just imagine .... -Lisa Worley and staff eaves 66 "He who make excuses d is better for nothing r else." -Amanda Wil¬ liams, 11. o P "Whatever floats your boat." - Jodie Baker, 11. Assistant Principal Mr. Steve Leaman shows his school spirit by dressing up for hobo day. Mr. Leaman also donned himself in camouflage, wore a necktie on his head and transformed into Mike Bra¬ dy. Students did not find it unusual to see the administration showing their spirit. AAt the Home¬ coming pep rally, seniors Valerie Fleming and Stef- anie Bazzle hold up signs while scream¬ ing out the class cheer called, “The Train." Each class came up with their own cheer instead of doing the tradi¬ tional class skit. Time ran out during the assembly due to the introduction of fall athletes. Classes did not get to see the administration take part in the traditional pie-eating contest, but they made up for it by dressing up during Spirit Week. Opening S enior Brian Huffman plays the saxophone during half-time of the homecoming varsi¬ ty football game. Students took on duel roles in after-school and community activities. Huffman played on the football team, worked on technology projects, was employed as a bag¬ ger at Food Lion in Harrisonburg, and perfor¬ med with the band during half-time shows and parades. Students found that doing some of everything helped to balance their schedule. W hile at a Mennonite Youth Fellowship meeting at junior Sharon Showalter's house, senior Melinda Esch and junior Jodie Baker enjoy each other's company and 'nine gooey marshmellows in front of a roaring ■ afire Members took part in a picnic, jumped trampoline, took part in games, and made •< in front of the fire. *§ 4 §§ ayout bv: Lisa Worley I've been here for so long that I've seen it all. We were bursting with over 300 freshmen. In addition to the 937 students, nine new teachers helped fill the school. Our students did so much and were so diverse. They did every¬ thing you could imagine. Doing home¬ work and keeping up with classes was the easy part for our students. I saw students here around the clock. They didn't only do schoolwork but they r s . Mim were involved in sports, clubs, and Hall and Mrs. Su¬ special teams. Chad had to get us there and back in aboutlO minu¬ tes. I don't think the tires touched the road the whole way." - senior Missy Shirkey After Homecoming, juniors Courtney Livesay (pictured) and Jessica Sutphin got their car stuck in a friend's muddy driveway. Livesay got out in her dress and stocking feet to push them out. "It was amazing that she got out there and pushed, because my car is a Fifth Avenue... it’s a monster. And she got it out!"Sutphin said. ■ In the spot light, newly crowned King Zachary Yoder and Queen Amy Kline led the school in dance to John Lennon's "Imagine." They were sur¬ rounded not only by students but huge silver ballons. "I spent five hours blowing up balloons," senior Katie Gray said. Layout by: Tammy Boyd
