The coach always said “ Fire at will!” Movie Review: Annie    ​ By Sofia Park Annie is about an orphanage with little girls and Miss Hannigan, who runs it, is very mean to them. Annie, the main character, was invited to stay at Mr. Warbuck’s house for a week. Annie is desperate to find her real parents and Mr. Warbucks tries very hard to help her find them. He offers a reward to anyone who can help find her parents. Annie had a locket that matched with her parent’s locket. Therefore, whoever had the other half would prove to be her parents. However, Miss Hannigan had the locket. The rest of the movie is spent with Miss Hannigan and her crook-of-a-brother trying to get the money and Annie. This is an action packed, musically filled movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end. You are sure to be singing songs way after you have stopped watching it! Take 3 ½ bananas and remove the banana peel from each ½ banana. 2. Cut the bare bananas into small pieces. 3. Then place them in the blender. 4. Next,bring over the handful of strawberries and take off the leaves. 5. Now you must place them in the in the blender. 6. Also pour in some milk(any type is okay). 7. Set the blender to blend and allow it to blend for 3 to 4 min. 8. Finally, pour the milkshake into a glass and insert a straw into it. Now,just sit and enjoy the strawberry, banana milkshake! Homemade Ice Cream By: Ridhima Ghoshal and Sofia Park ​ ● First you get a plastic cup, any kind of juice, and a popsicle stick, ● Next, you take the cup and pour any juice you want into it. ● Then, put the popsicle stick inside the cup ● After that, put the cup with the juice and popsicle stick inside the freezer for about 5 hours. ● Now sit down on a nice, warm spring day and enjoy your homemade ice cream. How to Make a Fruit Salad ​ By Maneet Shah ​ Ingredients Mixed fruit Honey 1 cup heavy cream 1/4 sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla   Directions Cut the fruit , Add Honey and stir In another bowl add sugar, vanilla and heavy cream Mix it in a mixer until fluffy Put the mixed fruit in a cup and top with topping How To Make Brownies By Sofia Park ● 6 oz of dark chocolate broken into pieces, ● 1 ½ sticks or ¾ cup butter, ● 1 ¼ cups of golden superfine sugar, ● pinch of salt, ● 3 large eggs, ● 1 scant cup all-purpose flour ● 2 tsp vanilla extract ● ½ cup chocolate chips ● 8-inch square cake pan, ● non-stick baking parchment ● scissors ● heatproof bowl ● pan ● wooden spoon ● measuring cups and spoons ● small bowl ● fork ● sifter ● flexible spatula ● knife ● First, preheat the oven to 350oF. Grease the cake pan and line it with non stick baking parchment. ● Next, place the chocolate and butter in a bowl. Melt over a pan of simmering water. Stir until smooth. Remove pan from the heat. Cool slightly. ● Then, add the sugar and salt to the melted chocolate. Beat the eggs in a bowl and add them gradually to the mixture. ● Sift the flour into the mixture and beat until smooth. Add the vanilla extract and stir in the chocolate chips. ● Scrape the mixture into the pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is pale brown. ● Take out of the oven and allow to cool down. Your age The African Folktale-Anansi the Spider ​ By: Mursala Wali and Sairaksha Thirunavukkarasu             The “African Folktales” assembly was GREAT! ​ Two story tellers from a theater company in North Carolina, who travel the country sharing African folktales, came to John Marshall School in order to share their tales to the students. One of the stories they told us was Anansi The Spider . In the story, ​ ​ there were six pots of soup. Anansi wanted to try all of them. He told the cooks to pull the string that would be attached to his leg when the soups were ready. After, he had eight strings attached to each of his eight legs. All of a sudden, one leg started to wiggle. He reached to go but then suddenly, another leg started to wiggle, then another and another and another and another. He was getting pulled at every corner. Legend say that’s how spiders have thin and long legs. If you are interested in revisiting this story, check the book out from our media center! Fitness Is Fun! By: Sofia Park And Abhinav Gudeti   Chitter Chatter!! John Marshall’s gym is buzzing with anticipation! The students are all gathered for an assembly. A bunch ​​ of quiet signals go up and Mrs. Pellicane comes and introduces the man that came to entertain us. His name was Greg! Greg was here to introduced different sports activities using a variety of equipment from around the world. His first activity was tossing a giant cube around with a few teachers. Then, he took some volunteers from the audience and they also tossed the cube. The next activity was a giant yo-yo toy that he kept tossing in the air and catching with a string. Then he took some more volunteers to play a fun sport about cooperation which was from his favorite country...America! The piece of equipment he used was called, “The Cooperation Band.” The students had to go inside the humungous band and work together to accomplish a task. Finally at the end of the show, he showed us one more trick. It was a black and white swirling hypnotising circle on a drill. He spun the circle with the drill and told us to look at the very middle of the circle for the whole time. Then when he removed the circle from sight and told us all to look at his head. The audience was amazed as his head appeared to be expanding. 3rd Grade Cultural Fair by Abhinav Gudeti and Sofia Park The third grade classes are always in groups and working on something fun and exciting. What could they possibly be preparing for now? It’s the Cultural Fair!! The countries given out were China, Poland, Greece, Ireland, France, and Mexico. The students were put into groups of three or four and given a country to research. These children had to make a twelve slide presentation which included a title page, the country's flag and what the colors stand for, the country’s map, famous landmarks, languages spoken there, some holidays celebrated, the kind of clothing people wear, foods eaten, utensils eaten with, their religion, some dances, folk tales, and three interesting facts. On the day of the fair the students set up their area including their presentations, food, pictures and flags from their country. Some even dressed up in clothes that represented their country. Parents were invited to visit the cultural fair and were very interested in trying new foods and learning about the countries. Everyone had a great time and learned a lot at the cultural fair.
