(Sup- port Team on Prevention), a regional youth coalition that focuses on the prevention of substance abuse and vio- lence among youth. S.T.O.P. is comprised of approxi- mately 40 students from high schools in the Buffalo Trace Region. Students from Au- gusta, Bracken, Fleming, Lewis, Mason, Robertson and St. Patrick high schools meet monthly to plan and implement prevention activi- ties for their schools under the guidance of RPC staff as well as receive training on drug and violence-related topics. The purpose of the coalition is to empower other youth to speak out against substance abuse and violence while promoting healthy, drug-free living. “Students often look up to their peers, especially younger kids,” said Lau- ren Penrose, RPC Director. “Youth-delivered prevention messages are more likely to resonate with other youth as they speak the same lan- guage.
