This official souvenir guide to Bothwell Castle details the site’s tumultuous history.
Conceived on a grand scale in the 13th Century, Bothwell Castle is sited on the River Clyde. It was never completed as planned due to its involvement in the Wars of Scottish Independence.
It changed hands many times and eventually became property of the powerful Black Douglases. The Douglas family added most of the features that are still visible to this day.
