November, 1939. Britain is already at war with Germany, but the R.A.F. is hardly swinging into action. Hampered by outdated technology and the dithering of politicians and military strategists, Pilot Officer Derek Ridley and his bomber crew are becoming frustrated by their ops, which seem almost as ineffective as they are dangerous. They alternate between dropping propaganda leaflets on Germany and targeting warships in port, but poor navigational equipment and unreliable meteorological forecasts make every raid excessively risky. Living in the shadow of death, Ridley and his crew savour life by pursuing the local girls and drinking together in a spirit of camaraderie.
Meanwhile in Germany, the ambitious Leutnant Werner Reinert and his night fighter crew face similar dangers and frustrations, as Reinert seeks military glory while falling in love with the flirtatious and well-connected Lotte.
Ridley and Reinert are fated to face one another in a final confrontation...
'Bombs Gone' is an action-packed blend of technical knowledge and compelling fictional narrative.
