It embod iesthe qualitiesand idealsthatVMI instills in each ofits mem- toA9 bers, Honor is ethics, honesty, and personal integrity. It requires the tools that the Institute provides us: Discipline, Responsibility, Courage, Goodwill, and Moral Fortitude. Honor is prevalent in all aspectsoftheInstituteandisneverseparatedfrom anyactivityor conversation. Honoristhefoundation ofthe Institute and without it VMI would not exist. Upon arrival to the Institute, each member of the Corp is &5®!S!£J4^E made aware of the important role honor plays not only in life at VMI, but life beyond limit's gates. All new cadets soon learn that barracksisaworldthatrequirescompletehonestyofallwholivein The Honor Code, which we immediately commit to memory, it. states simply that, "A Cadet Does Not Lie, Cheat, Steal, NorToler- ate Those Who Do." We are constantly re- minded of it, as we observe the Honor sheets present in every room on post. No cadet is ex- emptedfrom liv- ing by it and The' Code knows no rank orclassand treats all cadets equally with its demanding re- quirements. As cadetsoftheVir- ginia MilitaryInstitute, we areheldto astandard ofHonorthatfew of our peers could even begin to comprehend. We constantly hearthestoriesfromstudentselsewhereofdishonestconductthat we would neverconsiderengaging in. We know whatisrightand what is demanded of us, and we embrace our honor and what it standsfor. Every cadet is expected to live by the Honor Code during their stay at VMI. Yetthe principles and lessons of Honor learned during our cadetship remain in our hearts for life. Our Honor per- vades all conversations and all situations even afterwe leavethe walls of barracks.
