ThisSpringerimprintispublishedbytheregisteredcompanySpringerNatureSwitzerlandAG Theregisteredcompanyaddressis:Gewerbestrasse11,6330Cham,Switzerland Preface Big data analytics has been gradually becoming an integral aspect of decision-support systems in several important and diverse domains such as finance, health care, e-governance, agriculture, education, telecommunications, astronomy, security and surveillance, mediaandentertainment, smartcitiesandtransportation, andsoon.Given the ever-increasing amounts of data and the inherent heterogeneity and complexity of the data in these domains, we need to build capabilities for designing the next-generationofbigdataprocessingsystemsinordertoperformactionableanalytics. Incidentally, new kinds of applications involving artificial intelligence, machine learning, andreinforcementlearningaregraduallyincreasinginimportanceforgaining valuable insights for decision-making, while considering the contextual aspect of services deployment and delivery in various domains. These applications are essen- tiallydata-drivenandrequiretheefficientmanagementofmassive,heterogeneous,and disparate data repositories to enable knowledge extraction. This necessitates innova- tions in the underlying Cloud computing infrastructure as well as the design and modeling of data for supporting these complex cognitive technology-based applications. The 6th International Conference on Big Data Analytics (BDA) was held during December 18–21, 2018, at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal, Telangana State, India. The program included peer-reviewed research contributions as well as invited contributions. A view of research activity across a wide gamut of big dataanalyticswasprovidedbythesessionsonrelatedtopics.Thisvolumecontainsthe contributionsofkeynotespeakers, invitedspeakers, andtutorialspeakers.Thisvolume also contains the peer-reviewed research contributions in the areas of the vision and perspective of big data analytics, financial data analytics and data streams, Web and socialmediadata, bigdatasystemsandframeworks, predictiveanalyticsinhealthcare and agricultural domains, as well as machine learning and pattern mining. Withinthebigdataanalyticsframework, theconferenceattractedsubmissionsunder a wide gamut of diverse topics, including Web and social media, machine learning, predictiveanalytics, modelingbigdataanddatastreams.Furthermore, thesubmissions covered big data applications and frameworks in a wide variety of domains including (but not limited to) finance, health care, and agriculture. The selected papers in these proceedings, along with keynotes, invited talks, and tutorials on a variety of relevant topics,areexpectedtofurtherstimulateresearchandexposuretocutting-edgeresearch in the area of big data analytics. Theconferencereceived93submissions.TheProgramCommittee(PC)consistedof researchers from both academia as well as industry from nine different countries, namely, Japan, USA, Australia, India, China, Estonia, France, Canada, and Sweden. Each submission was reviewed by three to four PC members. A PC discussion phase was also incorporated to facilitate the final decision-making regarding the papers. VI Preface Basedonthisreviewprocess,thePCselected12fullpapersandsixshortpapers.The overall acceptance rate was 19.3%. We would like toextend our sincerethanks to themembers ofthe PC and external reviewers for their time, energy, and expertise in providing support to BDA 2018. Additionally,wewouldliketothankalltheauthorswhoconsideredBDA2018asthe forum to publish their research contributions. The sponsoring organizations, the Steering Committee, and the Organizing Committee deserve praise for the support they provided. A number of individuals contributed to the success of the conference. We thank Prof. Divyakant Agrawal, Dr. MukeshMohania, and Prof. YoshiharuIshikawa for their insightful keynote talks. TheconferencereceivedinvaluablesupportfromNIT,Warangal.Inthiscontext,we thank Prof. N. V. Ramana Rao, Director, NIT Warangal, India.
