Direccidn General de Archivos y Bibliotecas]. 311 pp. A comprehensive bibliography of Ukrainian-language imprints published outside Ukraine in the twentieth century continues to be a major desideratum. In the past, several individuals—Joseph Danko, Miroslav Labunka, and Bohdan Krawciw—have attempted to compile bibliographies of Ukrainian book production abroad. In 1974, a major attempt at the compilation of a bibliography of émigré belles-lettres and literary criticism was made by the late Bohdan Romanenchuk.' More comprehensive than Romanenchuk’s work, however, is that by an émigré Ukrainian bibliographer, Dmytro Buchynsky. Buchynsky was born in Trebukhivtsi [Trebuchowe, Pol.] on 4 April 1913. He studied theology for two years in the Volhynian town of Dubno and, following World War II, studied philosophy at the Ukrainian Free University in Munich. After moving to Spain in 1949, he worked for Radio Nacional de Espafia as a journalist on its Ukrainian programme, as well as writing articles that appeared in the émigré press throughout the world. Buchynsky died in Madrid in November 1982.’ This work reprints the greater part (pp. 42-311, omitting most of the introductory historical survey) of Buchynsky’s rare and little-known work, which was published in Madrid in 1962. The formal occasion for its publication was an exhibition organized by the Biblioteca Nacional in the autumn of 1961 to honour the centenary of the death of Taras Shevchenko. While the first section of Buchynsky’s work lists more than fifty titles dealing with Shevchenko and published in the emigration between 1945 and 1961, other sections deal with history, the social ' Bohdan Romanenchuk. The work contains an author index, and while the bibliographic descriptions are too laconic to be perfectly satisfactory to a bibliographer (i.e., subtitles are not indicated, and pagination is often inaccurate), nevertheless it is more comprehensive in some respects than Romanenchuk.
