The first ive days included reading of the papers and discussions among the participants fon Buddbist, Jain, Sava, Vaignava and Sikta tantras, ‘The discussions of the Tantric texts regarding its historical, practical, social, cullural and philosophical impact were caried out in the ‘morning and aftemoon sessions ofthe 6th day, The closing session ofthe workshop was concluded on the seventh day, During the lst two days no papers were invited from the participants, the main ‘objective being fo concentrate on group discussions. The principal speakers were : Prof. G. C, Pande on historical backeround, Dr. Kamlesh Dutta Tripathi on philosophical side and Dr. Yugeshwer on cultural impact. Dr. Nagendra Nath Upadhyaya highlighted his ‘views particulary on the Sul trations In this seven-day workshop a total of 18 papers were presented: onthe fits five days there were five articles on Buddhist Tantra, four on Jain Tantra, four on Suiva Tanita, three on Vaisnava Yantra and two on Smigta Tantra. [wus intended to invite papers on Kaul and Krama branches of Saiva and Sakta Tantra also, but this, ‘could not materialise. ‘The papers presented by various scholars and the discussions there on have been recorded. We have great pleasure in announcing that the proceedings of this workshop have heen rocessed into 16 casseies along with the articles under the ttle ‘Bharatlya TantrasSstra” (Indian Tantric Treatises) for the benefit of ‘connoisseurs of scholasly reading “This is our second endeavor of this kind. Prior to this, on a similar pattern, a seven day workshop was organised in 1988, the proceedings were published by the Insitute in 1990 under the tile “Sampadana Ke Siddhanta Aur Upidina” forthe perusal of eminent readers ‘he authorised medium of languages in the workshop were Lindi and English. All the articles received were in either ofthe two languages, but uring discussions Sanvkrit was also frequently used because Prof. N.R. Bhatt who inaugurated and concluded the workshop, was not quite familiar with Hindi. His presentatvons, during the diseussions in Sanskrit have been translated into Hin ‘The arlicles and discussions have been printed in different type settings. ‘In the beginning, shon introductions have been given shout the authors presenting their papers and the scholars who participated in the discussion on various tantric traditions. The scholars who participated in this workshop were of the ‘opinion that so far no such workshop of seminar was held on datferent branches of Tantra, But hat isnot so. In our time under the fabidance of the Padma Vibhiisana and eminent scholar on Tantra MLM, Pandita Gopinath Kaviraja and Peof. Jagannath Upadhyay, 3 Sominar was organised under the auspices of the Sampurnananda Sanskrit University, Varanasi. Bosides, duc tothe untiring efforts of PI. Jagannath Upadhyay an exhibition was also held on that ‘oveasion, During this workshop also an attempt was made on similar lines, We gratefully acknowledge the help and support received from Prof, Ram Shankar Tripathi, Ven. Losang Norbit Shastri and his colleagues for organising this exhibition. We ae also indebved to Prot. P.P. Ape for presenting the mandalas and other related pictures displayed inthe exhibition. Al the scholars who participated in this Workshop expressed their appreciation of the proceedings of the workshop in the concluding session, They also gave invaluable suggestions ‘Accordingly the proceedings are presented here duly fevised. The success of the workshop depends on their satisfaction. Almost all the scholars who participated inthe discussions were kind enough 10 0 through the proofs of their presentations on our request, We are ratoful to thom all.
