Cohen 169 Marlborough Street Boston, MA 02116 Dear Bert: I wrote the numismatic department at the Smithsonian Institution and asked them to see if their zoology department had any stuffed animals in storage. No answer has been received as yet. Thus, you see I am already inquiring for you. I never would have come across this particular item and it is wonder- ful haying friends like you! You never know what will turn up and I do appreciate your thinking of me. As soon as I have a chance I am going to spend about a month in the library going through books and see what else I can turn up. But this one, I think, is the BEST. wIriwtoendetro fifindyououthavmeoreanyinfioderamsatitoonwhaobmoutI ctahnis particular item. In our previous correspondence you were nice enough to send me a photo of the Menagerie of the Smithsonian in 1904. I haven't been able to locate the book you said the photo was in. However, I did locate a copy of THE FOREST CITY. Enclosed is a page. Does this mean that this was in two different books? Just though I would bring to your attention in case you were notaware of it. Do keep in touch. Always happy to hear from you. Look forward to seeing you at the ANA. Very truly yours. be/bp Bertram M. It really is a "fami1y" must say you were really glowing! Looks like we both kIeep quite busy. That's how the days and weeks go by very fast and we enjoy every day. don't know if ever sent you this -- but enclosed iIs list of namesI I picked up from the macerated money items own 1 What have to do is go to Washington and check the city dIirectories - and also the National Archives - and find out more about these companies - when they operated etc.. would love to locate some ads that must have been pIlaced - that is, if they ever did advertise these items. Plus want to locate the companies who actually produIced these items and purchased this shredded money from the government. This is the hard part - and the interesting part. ! will have to spend a couple of weeks in Washington. thought you would be interested in this list. Maybe s1ome of these names may "ring a bell" with you. Keep well. will be home 5/3- I Sineere1y, bc/bp Bertram M. Cohen enc 1. ERIC P.NEWMAN NUMISMATIC EDUCATIONSOCIETY Bertram M. Cohen April 29, 1992 169 Marlborough St. Boston, MA 02116 Dear Bert: I hope you had a nice trip abroad and that you straightened out their problems. Welcome back. I am glad you enjoyed EAC in St. Louis. We received so many letters that everyone must have had a good time. What pleased me most is that the group are true numismatists and probably the most scientific of all the specialty numismatic groups. As to macerated money it is a pleasure to help someone who has enthusiasm like you have. I am enclosing copies of what I consider my best find for you. It has pictures and text which are quite different from what was previously located. It is from Scientific American in 1918. I am glad to be your bird dog. Best of everything Eric P ERIC P.NEWMAN NUMISMATICEDUCATIONSOCIETY 6450CecilAvenue,St.Louis,Missouri63105 Bertam M. Cohen April 29, 1992 169 Marlborough St. Boston, MA 02116 Dear Bert: I have two colonial sheets on approval from you. I already have the Continental red & black in a single sheet. Yours is a double sheet and has a hole in one area. I am thinking. The other sheet has three items (requisitions of 1785). I have some singles but no partial sheet. May I trade you some things and get you your profit that way ? I will call you and talk about it shortly. Sincerely Eric P. Thank you for submitting them to us. Checks to cover them are enclosed. Please send a price list of other items you might have. These can be coins, paper or books.
