Thi mansion was a hotel. and \\'as called the Repub lican Hou c. It \\as built in the ummcr of 1814. In 1862 Ex- 10vcrnor John Reynolds wrote of this hotel in his ''Htstory of Bellevtllc." He savs Blair's mansion i to this day stand ing erect. in defiance of time and want of patnt. on the south cast corner of Illinois and outh econd streets. The walls of this vener able house arc composed of large hewn logs. laid horizontal and weather-boarded ovt:r. It tS t\\ o stories htgh. and had but two rooms below when it was fir t butlt. so far ac; I recollect." "I was always a guc t of ~lr. Blair' hotel. when there was no other and I can testify that the landlord wa bles cd with a good nature and a benevolent pirit: but 'mine ho tess' wa pretty much the reverse of her hu band. as the truth of htstory will not permit me to call him 'her lord and master'."
