Over the past fifty years, 196 7 Belleville East High School has most certainly made a name for itself through all of the success its alumni and current students have achieved. In 1967 as the city was rapidly growing, so was its high school population. This called for rezoning of students to attend a new high school. After the new high l~. .1 d!:~. ...~ ~~~~·J~j~f:. '.!·~.-..~~i~~i¢~~~"1 school was established, students were sent to a new campus to wear a new set of blue and white colors, and they were represented by a new mascot as well. Formally the Maroons of Belleville [~~~~ Township High School, these new Lancers entered East's doors with a new sense of identity that could take them anywhere. They were excited to start new traditions and make a name for themselves in the area, and over time they did just that. Over the next few years East's faculty and staff were formed. This included a new athletic department as well, and Lloyd Elmore was put up to the challenge as the athletic director. Also, new curriculum had to be established, and of course the faculty of this esteemed high school stepped up to the plate. As new campus clubs and organizations were started, sponsors could never anticipate that their high school involvement opportunity would go from working with a few clubs to over fifty in the span of five decades. As years went on, Lancers at Belleville East became well known as a powerhouse of diverse learning and unending talent. The school's athletes would eventually win numerous state titles, and they would go on to play at colleges and universities across the country. Students would eventually engage in the best honors program around and attend colleges from coast to coast. Lancers would also invest in their community over the years as they built up local businesses and used the skills they earned in high school to meet many successful career goals. While some new high schools may stumble and live in the shadows of other schools in the area, Belleville East High School achieved just the opposite. Through the dedication of faculty, staff, administration, and students, the past fifty years have proven to be nothing less than a success for District 201. In our fiftieth school year, the Lancers have continued to take opportunity to the next level as they have gone to state, sent students to colleges in just about every state, and put in thousands of community service hours. As Lancers proudly wore gold and attended numerous celebrations this year, the pride that reverberated from East students was almost tangible, and a sense of belonging and exciting engagement could never be felt more. As Lancers work through their short four years at East, they are able to enjoy a time of life that is like no other, and as they leave their mark on the school and leave as proud Alumni, there is simply not a Lancer out there who is not proud to be affiliated with such an award winning, diverse school that is full of students who are proud to call themselves Belleville East Lancers. -~-~-
