Music, dance, theatre, art, athletics, and academics blend to make Tyler Junior College abeacon to the community, the state, and the world at large. As the echoes ofthe chords filter through the oaks, theirvibrations tremble far beyond the confines ofthe brickarchways and windingwalks where students gather. Tyler Junior College is a lofty tower ofeducational opportunity for students who have come from all parts oftheworld. We accept submissions ofpoetry, short fiction, non-fiction essays, photography, and fine and graphic artbycurrent Tyler Junior College students. We accept submissions for consideration only during the fall semester each year for possible publication in the subsequent spring semester. TheBell l})\\vrAltsJoLimulis entirely student generated and seeks to provide a publishingvenue for the rich artistic expression ofTJC students. Our goal is to create a publication that is a high quality, content-rich source ofliteraryand artistic expression on awide range oftopics and themes. Therefore, we seekunique, insightful workdisplayingvivid, lively language and artistic skill. All submissions must be the original work ofthe student writer or artist who submits it for consideration or publication. We do not accept previouslypublished or plagiarized work. Everyattempt is made bythe editor to assure originality. All literarypieces will be submitted to turnitin.com for an originality report. However, it is ultimately the responsibilityofeach student to submit only his or her own literaryand artistic work. I awaken in a\'astroom,bright-\\'hitewalls,with no detail atall.'lliesmell ofburningwoodfillstheair. I look around tbi-something, av\ayout, and there in thefardistanee isadoor, a midnight-blaekdoor,with aerimson doorknob. I begin to run to it: myblood beginsto raeethrough myveins, and myheart isbeatingfastwith anticipation ofwhateould beon theother side. I stopatthedoor, reachingmy hand tothe knob, and my nenesbegin tobuild likebutterfliesin thestomach before pertbrmingin aconcert.Thedoorslowly opens, creakingineh- by-ineh. Thesmell ofdeadflesh fillstheair, and there in frontof me, onlydarknessexistswith novisiblewayofknowingwhat's in frontofme. Andthere, myfootsteps intothe unknown blackness. Thesoundofmyfeetechoesthroughoutthedesolatearea. A flashlightappears in m\ hand,givingthe reliefoflightoutofall thechaos. The lightflickers into an ominousfogwith barely any visibilitv. I lookaround,curiousofmysurroundings, hoping forsomesalvation. Nothing—hours, itseems,goby. Then I smell somethingfamiliar, somethingoh-too-common. I'hesmell fills my nose, guidingmeto itssource, andthereinthedistance isafigure—butnotanyfigure I haveseen before. Itslow^l} glides itswaytowards me. I cantmove asthefiguregetscloser, and it reveals itselfmore, and more. Adevilish monsterstandsin front ofme, black in stature,with ablood-redfaceand black-shoteyes thatsuck me in likeablack hole: ithasthehornsofamightybull, ftirlikeabear, and hoovesfoi'feet.There I standpetrified: a sudden roarofevil brings medown tomyknees. .Vnd therethe glimmerofsharp metal isreflected in myeyes. I plead andciy forthis tostop-tostopwhatitmightdoto me. Thethoughtof evei")thingendingflashesthrough myeyes. Asharp pain racesthix)ugh my body. Lookingdown, I realizethat I ha^ebeen stabbed./\ blaek iiandgi^abstheblade thatdrips^^'ith my blood and threes itinto my abdomen, slowly rippingitthrough m\ ehestand openingitup, showingmy organs, llicpain is unbearable. I tn toseream butnothing eomesout. I eantm(nefor I am tro/en in plaee."Someone wakemeupplease!" I en',butnothinghappens. Quickly I gather the littleendurance I haveand limpaway.There, thedoor appears, and I increase myspeed. I ha\'e neverbeen so happy in my lite. I grabthecrimson doorknobandopen doorand close it. (JaspingI collapsetothefloor, myhandscxnered in blood. With asigh ofrelief, I stand, turningaround tofind I'm notalone, l^housandsupon thousandsofshado^^'Sco^erthe loom. No moreistherewhite,butdecayed wallsthatha\etheodorofdead flesh anddeath. Thecro^\'dofdemonicshadowssoon begin tospread apart, andwalkingdown die middleismyboogeyman,theonewho stabbed me. Hestandsin frontofme: I tall tomy knees inprayer, hoping I will wakeup. .\nd thereheplaces acrown ofthornson my head."Fornow, no moreshall hebeyourprotector,fornow will you li\e in the light, fornowwill you bepure, nf)wyou are mine."'I'hedeep\()iee rangthrough myears, like apiercingsiren duringatornadowarning. Theblood-covered blade roseagainst myface intotheair. Then, suddcnh, I awakcfrom this nightmare screamingforhelp, coxered in sweat, and w ith tears i^ollingdown myface. I am terrifledtogoback tosleep. Thesearethedreamsthatrun through ni) mind repetitixely like a moxie. I1ie imagesareso\'i\id and real thate\en night beforesleeping I praythem awa), thebaddreams.
