She is a pediatric primary care mental health specialist (PMHS) and has provided comprehensive healthcare to medically complex children and adolescents, many of whom had behavioral health problems. Her research focuses on improving healthcare outcomes for young chil- dren. She implemented a funded study on oral healthcare for newborns and young children for mothers on the postpartum unit. At research conferences, Dr. Hallas has presented the results of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to improve the social–emotional development of toddlers and improve maternal confidence in caring for toddlers. She is currently the principal investigator (PI) of a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant for preceptor development and the PI for an RCT on vaccine hesitancy in prenatal and postpartum women. Dr. Hallas is the digital editor for Contemporary Pediatrics, writing a monthly column titled “The PNP Corner.” She is a faculty scholar of the International Qualitative Institute at Alberta, Canada. Dr. Hallas is an active member of sev- eral nurse practitioner organizations and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.
