Chan) Language Department Wandawort Colege, ‘oh Ra. Birmingham. England, ‘Nomdhari Elibrary Namdhari€ [email protected] Acknowledgement I am highly thankful to Dr. Channan Singh Chan who, by writing the foreword of this book, has drawn the attention of the Sikh families living out of India to the need for their children to learn Panjabi and urged the Panjabi writers to produce such literature as to create the interest of the children in Panjabi. Iam not a man of letters but I write only for the purpose that the children ‘may, somehow or other, come to understand that, without learning Panjabi, they ‘will not be fully equipped to lead a happy life as the spiritual guide capable of showing the path of Truth, is in Panjabl script. ‘These twenty-five stortes from the life of Guru Nanak can unite us with the teachings of the spiritual guide, if we read them carefully and try to mould our lives upon these. Guru Nanak was born in 1469 A.D. He began to share his divine knowledge from the age of seven. The knowledge of Truth was his guide. To spread this divine knowledge, Guru Nanak undertook four long journeys. On these Journeys he went to Hindu temples along with Bhal Mardana where he showed the true path to the people who had gone astray. Thousands, who met him on the way, were shown the way of Truth. He made the Islamic religious heads of Mecca understand that the abode of God is on all sides. At the time of Babar's invasion, Guru Nanak saw tyranny being committed against the helpless and prayed, “If a tiger kills the cows, the herdsman is to blame.” It was answered thus, “If the cows forget the herdsman, the fault lies with the cows.” So if we forget our Lord, we are lable to face all types of troubles and travails. To keep God always in mind, we should have the knowledge of His virtues and mertts, the basic teachings of spiritual guide (Guru Granth Sahib). Tam thankful to S. K.P. Singh who has put his body and soul in helping me to translate this book into English. It seems that Guru Nanak’ teachings have made a deep impression on his mind. 1am greatly obliged to S. Ajmer Singh Grewal and Miss Eleanor Nesbitt for the kind suggestions and help. 1 am highly thankful to S. Kashmira Singh, artist who has produced the ‘matching sketches for the stories and cover design. Children can use sultable colours of their own choice to paint the blank sketches in their own books. ‘My thanks to the managements of the Gurdwaras and organisations and individuals with whose help my books are reaching the Sikh public.
